DID YOU CAMP THIS LONG WEEKEND?

Before you pack up and leave your campsite, make sure your campfire is completely out and cold.

- Use plenty of WATER to put your fire out.
- Don’t just bury it, hot coals can stay hidden underground and potentially reignite.

Pour water over the fire, stir the ashes and coals, then add more water until everything is cool to the touch.

Before you leave, take that extra few minutes to make sure your fire is well and truly out.

Put it out. Soak it. Stir it. Check it.

🔥 Planning a burn? Fire permits are required from today!

The Bush Fire Danger Period begins today, Thursday 1 October 2026, across the Mid Western Regional Council area and NSW RFS Cudgegong District.

It’s also a good reminder to ask: is your household ready for the fire season?

🏡 Prepare your property.
📋 Review your bush fire survival plan.
🗣️ Talk with your family about what you will do on days of increased fire danger, or if a fire threatens your home.

Don’t leave those conversations until you can see smoke.

Before you burn during the Bush Fire Danger Period, landowners and managers must:

✅ Obtain a Fire Permit from their local RFS brigade.
✅ Notify the local fire authority and neighbours at least 24 hours before lighting up.
✅ Make sure conditions are suitable and the necessary precautions are in place for a safe burn.

📞 Need a permit?
Contact your local brigade Permit Officer, call the Cudgegong Fire Control Centre on 02 6370 9800, Monday to Friday, or complete an online application.

Fire is an important tool for managing fire risk and supporting farming operations, but an escaped burn can have devastating consequences and result in heavy penalties.

🚨 If your fire escapes, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Calling early helps emergency services respond quickly and minimise the damage.

A little preparation now can make a big difference when it matters.

🔥 2026 RFS STATE CHAMPS WRAP UP 🔥

After three massive days in Dubbo, the 2026 NSW RFS State Championships are done and dusted!

Mullamuddy Captain Nick joined members from NSW RFS - Mudgee Headquarters Brigade to form the Mudgee HQ Senior Firefoxes, alongside Hollie, Ethan, Thomas and Noah, with Nick taking on the role of Crew Leader. 🔥🦊

This was the team’s first State Championships, and with no real idea what they were getting themselves selves into, the weekend was always going to be about having a crack, learning as much as possible and seeing how we stacked up against teams from across NSW.

Across the weekend, the team was thrown into everything from complex fireground and motor vehicle accident scenarios through to pumping, first aid, communication, strategy and plenty of unexpected challenges. It quickly became clear that getting the job done is one thing, but getting it done correctly, safely and quickly under competition pressure is another to compete with the best!

While there was no silverware coming back to home this time, the experience was worth far more than that. Nick and the rest of the team have come home with plenty of new ideas, lessons and experience that can be brought back into training at Mullamuddy, Mudgee HQ and across the Cudgegong District.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising, running and judging the Championships, and congratulations to all the teams who competed over the weekend.

For plenty more photos and a full wrap up of the team’s DubVegas adventures, head over to the NSW RFS - Mudgee Headquarters Brigade page.

Now… Coffs Coast 2028? 👀🔥

Best of luck to our Captain Nick, who is heading to Dubbo this weekend to crew lead the Mudgee HQ Firefoxes at the NSW RFS State Championships! 🦊🔥

Nick is also a Mudgee HQ member and has been involved with their junior training program for a number of years. We’ll be cheering the whole team on!

🔥 Mudgee HQ Fire Foxes are off to State Champs! 🦊

Tomorrow, the Mudgee HQ Firefoxes are heading to the NSW RFS State Championships at Dubbo Showground from 11–13 September.

This year’s team is Nick, Hollie, Ethan, Thomas and Noah, bringing together a mix of familiar faces from our junior program.

For the past few years, Nick, Hollie and Ethan have spent plenty of time on the sidelines training and supporting our juniors. Thomas and Noah, meanwhile, were part of our junior team that took home 2nd place at last year’s Cadet Championships. Now the tables have turned and for the first time, all five get to compete together in the senior competition!

Nick, who is also Captain of NSW RFS - Mullamuddy Brigade will take on the Crew Leader role for the team.

Being our first time going to State Champs, we know its going to be a challenge however, we’re looking forward to having a crack, meeting other teams from across NSW and seeing how we handle whatever challenges are thrown our way.

Preparing for Champs has already been a great opportunity to train together, sharpen our teamwork, communication and problem solving, and practise skills through some very different scenarios.

Now we just have to see how the Fire Foxes go! 🦊🔥

Wish us luck!

🚒 CAN EMERGENCY SERVICES GET TO YOU WHEN IT COUNTS?

When bush fires occur, firefighters need safe and reliable access to your property.

Our fire trucks are large vehicles, so take a look at your driveway and access before the fire season. Things like narrow gateways, low branches, soft ground, locked gates and limited turning areas can make it difficult or unsafe for a fire truck to reach your home.

The NSW RFS recommends property access has:
• A minimum width of 3.5 metres
• At least 4 metres clearance from overhanging branches and structures
• Enough space for large fire trucks to turn around
• An all weather surface capable of supporting heavy vehicles
• Clearly accessible gates and entrances

A little preparation now can make a big difference when every minute counts.

Come and have a chat with us at Get Ready Weekend on Sunday 20 September from 10am to 2pm about your property and preparing for the coming fire season.
