🚒 FIREFIGHTERS REMEMBRANCE DAY

Today, we pause to remember and honour the firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting their communities.

Firefighters Remembrance Day is an opportunity to reflect on their courage, dedication and sacrifice, and to acknowledge the families, friends and colleagues who carry their memory forward.

It’s also a time to recognise the commitment of firefighters across Queensland, both career and volunteer, who continue to give their time in service of their communities.

To our fellow firefighters and their families, thank you for your ongoing dedication, support and commitment.

We are particularly proud that Janice, a long-serving member of Bonogin Valley Rural Fire Brigade and our former First Officer, had the privilege of speaking at today’s remembrance ceremony.

Janice’s contribution to the ceremony was a special moment for our brigade, and we encourage our community to take the time to watch her address, which begins at approximately 26 minutes into the recording.

🧡 We remember those who have fallen. We honour their service. We will not forget.

The Firefighters Remembrance Day ceremony held earlier today can be viewed via the link below.

🚒 BV51 DEPLOYED | LOCKYER VALLEY

Today, a crew from Bonogin Valley Rural Fire Brigade is away from home, assisting with the significant fires burning in and around Murphys Creek in the Lockyer Valley.

Our BV51 Medium Attack and crew have travelled to the area to work alongside local and supporting Rural Fire Service crews.

Deployments like this are a great reminder that while our primary role is protecting our local community, when help is needed further afield, brigades from across Queensland come together to support one another.

A big thank you to our crew for giving up their time, travelling away from home and putting in the work to support our more distant neighbouring brigades and their communities.

We wish everyone on the fireground a safe deployment and look forward to welcoming our crew and BV51 home safely.

⛈️ IT’S ‘GET READY QUEENSLAND’ WEEK

This week is ‘Get Ready Queensland’ Week!

Living in Queensland means severe weather can come in many forms. Bushfires, storms, flooding, cyclones and extended power outages can all impact communities, sometimes with little warning.

The good news is there are simple things we can all do now to be better prepared.

Throughout this week, Get Ready Queensland will be sharing practical advice to help you:
✅ Understand the risks where you live
✅ Make an emergency and evacuation plan
✅ Prepare your home and property
✅ Pack an emergency kit
✅ Know where to find warnings and reliable information
✅ Prepare for power, phone or internet outages
✅ Think about pets, medications and important documents
✅ Check in with family, friends and neighbours

📱 We encourage our community to follow Get Ready Queensland on social media this week.

Their pages are a great source of practical information to help Queensland households prepare before severe weather strikes.

A few minutes spent getting ready now can make a big difference when it matters.

Yesterday, our fire station became a meeting place for the whole community.

Kids sprayed water from the fire truck. Families explored the grounds. Locals enjoyed the live music. Neighbours met the people behind their local emergency services.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Bonogin Valley Rural Fire Brigade Community Open Day. Seeing you there made all the preparation worthwhile.

A huge thank you to Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service and SES for joining us. To the petting zoo, bouncy castles, face painters, live musicians and line dancers, thank you for bringing so much fun to the day. And to every stallholder, thank you for being part of it.

To our brigade members: you gave up your time to plan, prepare, set up and spend the day welcoming our community. Thank you. We’re grateful to your families, too, for everything they did behind the scenes.

Our Open Day is a chance to meet your local brigade before you need us. Take that connection one step further this week: make sure everyone in your household knows your bushfire plan, including when you’ll leave and where you’ll go.

What was your favourite part of the day? We’d love to hear it in the comments. 💛
