SES Mullumbimby Mullumbimby Unit of the NSW State Emergency Service - helping the community in times of floods, storms and tsunami 🌧️⛈️☔️🌊 WANT TO JOIN SES?

MULLUMBIMBY SES is Byron Shire's branch of the NSW State Emergency Service – tasked to meet the emergency needs of local residents and visitors during floods and storms. Mullumbimby SES trains the first and second Monday each month from 7pm to 9.30pm. Anyone interested in joining the SES is welcome to come along and see for themselves what it's all about! (No appointment necessary but you must be aged 16 or over). We are always looking for new members. TRAINING
We offer full training in a wide range of specialised skill sets that cover both outdoor (fieldwork) and indoor (admin) operational responses. Although we encourage members to train in a range of areas, volunteers are free to choose their own level of participation – whether that be performing a swift-water rescue or simply providing a friendly smile and hot drink to a fellow volunteer after a long, wet day in the field. HOW TO FIND US...
Our SES Headquarters is adjacent to Rural Fire Service's shed – located on the right-hand side of Coolamon Scenic Drive, less than 1km north of Mullumbimby's town centre. Cross Federation Bridge and continue 200 meters past Main Arm Road (on the left). For general information or recruitment inquiries call 1800 201 000

Last Sunday, two of our fab volunteers, along with teams from Northern Rivers NSW SES, NSW SES Tweed Coast Unit and NSW Rural Fire Service helped volunteers from Resilient Suffolk (formerly Suffolk Park Community Resilience Team) with their community barbecue, designed to provide everyone with the opportunity to ask questions and gather information about how to effectively prepare their homes for flooding & storms.
Judging by the happy faces, it looks like it was successful - and fun! 🧡

This morning, three volunteers from our Unit were joined by teams from NSW SES Tweed Coast Unit, NSW SES Murwillumbah Unit and Northern Rivers NSW SES to take part in a door-knocking activity in Suffolk Park.
We were there to support Resilient Suffolk (formerly Suffolk Park Community Resilience Team), who were represented by local residents Alison and Roslyn.
Working across the community, we had chats with some of you about how to prepare for flooding in your street, asked you for feedback about your past experiences with floods, and reminded you to install the Hazards Near Me app.
We also gave out information regarding a community barbecue next Sunday the 11th of October at Linda Vidler Park from 10:30am that is being put on by Resilient Suffolk. It will be a great opportunity to meet them and some NSW SES volunteers, ask questions and meet others in your neighbourhood!

You might have seen some of our volunteers out on the Brunswick River this morning, training and familiarising themselves with our boats and gear.
They then swapped trucks and went to Tyagarah to clear a large fallen tree across a driveway, blocking the residents’ access.
🌳🚙🏡
Talk about variety! That’s what you get in NSW SES!
