World Compassionate Communities Day (1 November) recognises and celebrates local, community-led initiatives that support people through caring, ageing, serious illness, dying and grief.

In partnership with Compassionate Communities Australia, we are delivering a Compassionate Communities Program to help build a more connected community where looking out for one another is part of everyday life.

Thank you to everyone who attended our recent Compassionate Connector Training. By building their confidence to listen, share information and connect people with support, these local connectors are helping make compassion visible in our community.

One week left to complete the Future Mundaring Survey!

Future Mundaring is an opportunity to tell us what you value about your community, what should be protected, what needs more attention and what you want the Shire to prioritise over the coming years.

You do not need to know anything about Council plans or strategies. We want to hear about your lived experience of the place you call home.

Your responses will help inform future planning, investment and community development across the Shire.

📢 Have your say by 8 November.

To celebrate WA Seniors Week (8 to 15 November), we’re joined on The Hills Talk by Jamie Brindle, founder of Bicycles for Humanity (WA).

What started as a retirement project has grown into an incredible volunteer-driven operation that is changing lives both locally and internationally through the simple gift of a bicycle.

We are also joined by Dr Luc Mulimbalimba whose work with Bicycles for Humanity in the Democratic Republic of Congo highlights the life-changing impact that access to transport can have on health, education and community wellbeing.

This week the new Firewise Demonstration Garden at the Mundaring Firefighters School was opened, alongside project partners, local bushfire brigades, community groups and Shire representatives.

The garden has been developed as a practical community resource, showcasing plants and landscaping approaches suited to Perth Hills gardens and demonstrating how thoughtful garden design can form part of preparing a property for bushfire.

The project brought together the Shire’s Emergency Management, Environment, Civil Works and Parks and Gardens teams, with contributions from The Forever Project , Mundaring Firefighters School and Mundaring Community Men's Shed.

Darlington Bushfire Ready is celebrating an incredible milestone this year, marking 30 years of neighbours working together to help build a safer, better-prepared community.

The Bushfire Ready program is a community-led initiative that helps residents build their knowledge and capacity to prepare for bushfires.

Darlington has become a strong local example of this approach, with 44 active Bushfire Ready streets recorded last year.
