The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is a volunteer-based, professional emergency services organisation. We are here to ensure the safety of Victorian communities by responding to emergencies and disasters across the state.

Today is the Great ShakeOut, a global drill held every year, to educate the community on earthquake safety.
As the control agency for earthquake, we want every Victorian to know the three important steps to stay safe during an earthquake: DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON!

Even though high magnitude earthquakes are rare in Victoria, they do happen and you could experience one while travelling overseas.

🌧️ WEATHER WATCH – STAY SAFE! 🌧️

With wet weather around, Murchison SES is reminding everyone to take care on the roads. 🚗💦

⚠️ Watch out for water over roads and never drive through floodwater — you don’t know how deep or fast-moving it may be.

👀 Keep an eye out for hazards such as fallen trees, debris and localised flooding, and report hazards when it is safe to do so.

🚨 A Special Day at SES State Fleet Centre! 🚨

Yesterday, a few of our Murchison SES crew headed to Derrimut to the SES State Fleet Centre to pick up our brand-new trailer! 🧡💙

But that wasn’t all! The crew had the privilege of a tour around the centre and even got a sneaky look at Inverloch’s rescue boat. 🚤

You sure do learn a lot when you get the opportunity to visit places like this, and we loved soaking up all the knowledge. We were even treated to a special lunch, which was a lovely surprise! 🍽️

A huge shout-out to Kane, whose fantastic organisation made this day such a success. You are a wealth of knowledge, and we appreciate the time, effort and thought you put into planning such a great day for our crew.

You’re one of a kind, Kane — I see a pay rise needed here! 😂👏

Thanks again for a fantastic day. We can’t wait to put our new trailer to good use supporting our community!

Last night our crew got stuck into some cribbing training! 🛠️

We like to keep our training nights light-hearted, but always with a focus on learning, building our skills and growing together as a team.

We take what we do seriously, and building trust in each other is a big part of that. But we also know how to have a good laugh along the way! 😂

Today we celebrate and thank all of our incredible SES volunteers who not only give their time to help and support our community, but also play such an important role in their own families.

🚨 Community Engagement Facilitators – Learning Together! 🚨

Over the past two days, our CEF Program volunteers have come together with volunteers from other SES units at Benalla to complete their Community Engagement Facilitator course. 👏

It’s been a fantastic couple of days of learning, sharing ideas and building skills that will help us better connect with and support our local communities. 💙🧡

A big thank you to everyone who took part and to those who helped make the training happen!

We’re looking forward to taking what we’ve learnt back into our communities and continuing to build stronger, more prepared and resilient communities. 💪

Volunteering with SES isn’t just about responding to emergencies — it’s about being part of our community before, during and after an event.

🌧️ WET WEATHER, STORM DAMAGE & FALLING TREES 🌳

Our Murchison SES crew have been out and about attending jobs following the recent wet weather. 💪

With the ground saturated and trees becoming unstable, please take extra care around trees. Branches and entire trees can come down unexpectedly, particularly with wind and ongoing rain.

🌳 Have you had a tree fall or suffered storm damage? Let SES be your first point of call! 🟠🔵

SES can attend and assess the situation and make the area safe where possible before you call in a handyman, tree lopper or other contractor. We can help guide you to what needs to happen next and whether further assistance is required.

📞 For storm damage or a fallen tree, call SES on 132 500.

🌊 A reminder about the river: over the next few days, the river will continue to move through ebbs and flows. You may notice the river looking quite high at times and then lower again as water moves through the catchment.

Please continue to monitor conditions, take care around waterways and never drive through floodwater.

Stay safe, stay dry and look out for one another. ❤️

This week, two of our Murchison SES members were deployed to assist with a land search in the Ghin Ghin area.

These are just some of the extraordinary things our volunteers have the opportunity to be part of. Whether it’s supporting our local community or assisting further afield, our members are always ready to lend a hand when they’re needed most.

As the Unit Controller, I couldn’t be prouder of our crew. I am incredibly grateful for their dedication, commitment, and willingness to step up and support these important operations. Thank you for everything you do to serve our community and beyond.
