Murtoa College At Murtoa College, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where every student feels valued, inspired, and empowered to achieve their full potential.

Murtoa is 300 kilometres northwest of Melbourne and 30 kilometres from the regional city of Horsham. Our students come from the small surrounding towns of Rupanyup, Glenorchy and Minyip. Students also travel from Horsham. Murtoa College was formed by the amalgamation of Murtoa Primary School and Murtoa Secondary College in 2003. The College has around 300 students, with combined primary classes and at least two classes in each year level in our secondary section. Our College has beautiful grounds featuring mosaics and garden areas that our students have designed and maintain. Our large site features many innovations including drought-tolerant gardens which have won statewide recognition, mosaics which reflect the college values, a wind generator that has the capacity to power the whole school and environmentally-conscious buildings.

|| FAREWELL TO OUR GRADUATING CLASS OF 2026 ||

Today, we farewelled our graduating cohort of 2026 with a special assembly celebrating their journey through Murtoa College. Students shared photos reflecting on their time at the College, before being sent off with some music performed by Kieran and Michelle Butler.

For some students, external examinations begin in just over a week, and we wish them all the very best as they prepare for this next challenge. Others are preparing to enter the workforce for the first time or continue their learning through an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Regardless of the pathway they choose, we thank our graduating students and families for their contributions to the College and the memories they have created along the way. We are proud of their achievements and wish them every success and happiness as they take the next steps in their journeys.

A big congratulations to both James and Kayne for making it to GWR athletics.

James came 6th with a throw of 25 metres - 7 metres behind Black Ranges throw. He enjoyed competing and is keen to practice before next year.

Kayne competed with schools from all around Victoria in high jump, although he didn’t get a place he did exceed his personal best!

Well done boys!

|| SPORT | Primary Black Ranges Basketball ||

On Wednesday 14th October, some of our Grade 5/6 boys proudly represented Murtoa College at the Black Ranges Basketball Competition in Ararat.

The boys took to the court against teams from Minyip, Stawell West and Ararat, showcasing some fantastic basketball skills, determination and teamwork throughout the day!

Game 1 – Murtoa vs Minyip

The boys came out firing, starting the competition with an impressive 20–2 WIN! A fantastic team effort to kick off the day!

Game 2 – Murtoa vs Stawell West

In a nail-biting contest, the boys fought hard to secure a 16–16 DRAW! They demonstrated excellent skills, composure and resilience under pressure in a very tight game.

Game 3 – Murtoa vs Ararat

With a game plan in place and their sights set on the Grand Final, the boys took to the court with confidence and determination. Their teamwork paid off, securing a thrilling 14–12 WIN and earning themselves a place in the GRAND FINAL!

Unfortunately, we went down in the Grad final by 20 points but the determination, positivity, sportsmanship and teamwork displayed by our boys throughout every game was something to be extremely proud of. They encouraged one another, remained focused under pressure, and represented Murtoa College with pride.

Congratulations, boys!

On Monday, 12 students proudly represented Murtoa College at the Black Ranges Athletics Carnival in Stawell.

Despite the cold weather, our students displayed fantastic attitudes and gave their very best throughout the day. We had some terrific results, with several students achieving outstanding performances. Most importantly, many students recorded personal bests, which is a fantastic achievement and something they should be very proud of.

A huge congratulations to Kayne Satori-Billman and James Hemley, who have qualified to represent us at the GWR Athletics Sports in Ballarat on Thursday, 8 October.

Well done to all 12 students on their efforts, sportsmanship and determination. We are incredibly proud of you all!

|| CAMPS | Year 8 Camp ||
Day 3 (Thursday) - After a great nights sleep and a little sleep in, we divided and conquered two more fun activities! Ms Martin and Rachel took 6 students on the Dolphin Sanctuary kayak tour at Port Adelaide. We kayaked around the mangroves battling the strong current and then finally saw three dolphins 10 minutes before the tour ended! Mr Sachse and Mr McClure took 20 students to the West Beach Adventure ropes course testing their balance on a variety of aerial obstacles and the giant swing!

A quick salad roll/sandwich for lunch and we changed into our bathers and went to explore the BeachHouse, an indoor activity centre with arcade games and three fun waterslides!

Time for two hours of free time to relax and prepare for our delicious tea at Charlie’s diner, an all you can eat buffet! With a very full stomach and maybe too many servings of dessert, we finished the night with a private screening of Spider-Man!

Another fantastic day and we are all looking forward to a good nights sleep before the trip home tomorrow!
