🌿 Where your backyard ends, bushland begins.

Small actions like mowing or trimming vegetation beyond your property boundary can damage habitat, spread w**ds and increase erosion.

Help preserve our natural areas by only gardening and mowing within your property boundary.

If you have concerns about overhanging vegetation from Council bushland, call us on 02 6670 2400 and we will do whatever maintenance is required. Don’t just do it yourself.

This National Water Week, we’re taking a look at how we’re tracking against our community water use goal: Target 160 (160 litres of water per person, per day) πŸ’§

Last week, we averaged 183 litres per person, per day, which means we were 23 litres per person over our daily target.

Bridging that gap doesn’t take massive lifestyle changes. It just takes a few quick adjustments to our autopilot habits:

πŸ‘‰ Shorter showers: Save up to 9 litres for every minute you shave off your shower
πŸ‘‰ Check for leaks: Just one leaky tap can waste more than 30 litres a day, and a constantly running toilet can leak up to 260 litres a day!
πŸ‘‰ Turn off the tap while brushing: Save up to 5 litres every time you brush your teeth.
πŸ‘‰ Use a pool cover: Save up to 82 litres every day from evaporation.
πŸ‘‰ Ditch the hose: Sweep your paths instead of hosing them to save up to 20 litres per minute.

There are plenty more water savings tips and tricks on our website. πŸ‘‡

River Health Grants are open to rural landholders across the Tw**d. Register your interest and a waterways officer will come and walk your creek with you.

Jodie at Woodland Valley Farm in Fernvale has fenced about 2.5 kilometres of creek frontage. She did not do it alone.

"Without Council's support financially, and also networking, we wouldn't have been able to achieve getting all of those waterways fenced off by now," she said.

"Working with Council is actually enabling us to do what we need to do to protect the land and waterways."

If you have a creek or river on rural land in the Tw**d, the grant can help with fencing, stock troughs, native planting, w**d control and erosion repair. No creek is too small to ask about.

What a fantastic start to the day at the October Tourism Networking Breakfast hosted by Business Kingscliff at Salt Bar.

With the Tw**d recently named the only Australian destination on Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2027 list, tourism was firmly in the spotlight as local businesses, industry leaders and community stakeholders came together to discuss the opportunities ahead for our region.

A big thank you to the speakers, who shared valuable insights on tourism, hospitality, nature-based experiences, destination development and the future of the Tw**d:

β€’ Paul Morton, Peppers and Mantra Salt | https://brnw.ch/21x6yOw
β€’ Aymon Gow, Tropical Fruit World
β€’ Tim Jack Adams, GreenX7 | https://brnw.ch/21x6yOz
β€’ Tiffany Stodart, Tw**d Shire Council
β€’ Cr James Owen, Tw**d Shire Council update and Witheriff Group update
β€’ Godfrey Esmonde, HOLM Developments | https://brnw.ch/21x6yOy

It was also an exciting opportunity to hear about the next chapter for tourism in the Tw**d, with Tw**d Shire Council recently bringing tourism services in-house and launching a dedicated Tw**d Tourism team.
