Martindale Public School Martindale Public School is a small, rural school in the Upper Hunter. Student well-being is at the forefront of our daily routines.

Martindale Public School is a small rural school in the Denman area, which continues to serve a diverse though mostly rural community. Our school caters for students from Kindergarten through to Year 6 across two differentiated learning spaces. In addition to implementing the mandatory syllabus, students at Martindale Public School benefit from small learning groups with focused individual learning. Students enjoy being active with our daily PE classes, relaxing in our art and yoga classes and becoming culturally aware with our Japanese program. The majority of our students are engaged in private music lessons in piano and guitar. Our environmental education program includes excursions into our local Wollemi environment and growing our own veggies. Our group setting allows for the development of independent work habits, opportunities for responsibility, cooperation and leadership and the building of tolerance. The environment also provides encouragement for students to progress at their own pace and the implementation of intervention programs for students experiencing difficulties both academically and socially.

Hands on learning in outdoor environments is always engaging and meaningful. The High Performance Gifted Education (HPGE) program : Grime Scene Investigation for Stage 3 was exactly that! Hosted by the Awabakal Environmental Education Centre at the Denman Wetlands on Tuesday, students worked collaboratively in teams to look at ‘real world’ issues linked to Science and Geography. Testing of water quality, investigating animal habitats and exploring erosion activities allowed for students to engage in authentic, challenging problem-solving. Data was collected, critical thinking applied and possible solutions to discovered issues were presented. Well done Yr 6 on representing your school so well and impressing the presenters with how engaged you were with all the activities!

Day 3 of camp
The big camp pack up (imagine 84 students getting organised!) and off for another day of learning.
First stop Old Dubbo Gaol. Fascinating to learn it opened in 1871 and only closed its doors in 1966! Operating in what is now the centre of town we heard some entertaining escape stories. One inmate, went on to be more securely housed (due to the number of times he escaped) in a number of other gaols, finally finishing in the notorious prison on Cockatoo Island. Some students remembered hearing about him whilst visiting Cockatoo Is last yr! Conditions were basic for many but on a different level for prisoners in the 19 Century.
Stop 2 Royal Flying Doctor Service
How amazing that wonderful individual have such a passion to improve the lives of others!
Reverend John Flynn (from our $20 note) was one such person. Getting to at least be in the training flight simulator was amazing. The movie detailing actual support of individuals in crisis was very moving. The vastness and isolation for those living in the outback, is hard for our students to imagine.

Day 2 adventures, continued! Immersed in history at Dundullimal Homestead, where pioneer settlers went beyond the government legal settlement line for ‘white people’!
So much to absorb from; early building techniques, forges needed to make essentials of nails, tools, horseshoes, architecturally designed pioneer homestead, how critically important horses were, vagaries of farming ( that hasn’t changed much!!) and also learning some principles of indigenous games! Quite an afternoon following on from our zoo visit!

Today our infants from Martindale Public School and Jerrys Plains Public School had the most exciting day exploring history at the Newcastle Museum. Mr Squiggle has now inspired a new generation and wow we got creative! Everyone was thrilled to dive into the Supanova Science Lab, where they lifted a car, tested their reaction speeds, harnessed the power of wind, experimented with magnetic forces and got hands on all kinds of crazy science fun!
Then we hopped on the light rail, cruised on the ferry to Stockton, had a play in the playground, and topped it all off with a yummy ice‑cream treat. Big smiles, big day!

School camp! What fun and learning to be had! Away with our old friends and new from Sandy Hollow, Jerry’s Plains, Milbrodale, Broke, Mount Pleasant and Kirkton. Stopping in Gulgong before venturing through interesting programs at Wellington Caves.
We learnt so much about limestone cave formation and fossils! Arriving in Dubbo for the night.
