Fountain Gate Secondary College; Careers & Pathways
Careers, Pathways & School Transition Announcements & Information
21/06/2019
On Monday the 17th of June, Fountain Gate Secondary College held its annual VCE Careers and Pathways Showcase. Twenty-seven institutes set up in the gymnasium from higher education, TAFE and job service providers to offer students and parents with pathway options, booklets, gift bags and presentations. This included representatives from major Universities, Defence Australia, Victorian Police and local community groups.
It was amazing to see a lot of younger students attending the evening and taking the initiative to learn about the range of opportunities and possibilities available to them. We had students discover new potential pathways and passions, asking a range of mature and sophisticated questions to gauge a better understanding of their future pathways. Many students used this opportunity to discover their ‘what’s next’ whilst thinking about their pre-requisite studies for upcoming course counselling days and post-secondary school choices.
Following the showcase were multiple Pathway Presentations hosted by the Careers and Pathways Team and included guest speakers from our Alliance school, Hallam Secondary College and Headstart. This was attended by the Year 10 cohort to inform them on where they can take their studies next year, the subjects offered and how they can utilise the College’s relationship with Hallam Secondary College and Gleneagles Secondary College to fully gauge the breadths of subjects offered.
Additionally, our Alumni Presentation ran by Alumni Co-ordinator Ms. Gonzales and assisted by this year’s school Alumni Leader, Farishta Hussaini, welcomed Alisha Keyzer ’98, Megan Mulhall ’10, Dominique Cuschieri ’15 and Liam Sell ’16 who shared their post Year 12 stories. All presenters spoke highly of the College and reflected on the lessons they learned while at Fountain Gate Secondary College. The speakers spoke independently about the importance of mentors, a work-life balance and building a positive relationship with your teachers
We would like to thank everyone who supported the event. The feedback from students and the stall holders was absolutely fantastic and extremely positive We look forward to the knowledge and feedback being reflected in the career counselling that students undertake in Term 3 and 4. We cannot wait for the 2020 VCE Careers and Pathways Showcase. See you next year!

Fantastic day out at the 2019 VCE and Careers Expo at the Caulfield Racecourse! On the 03.05.19, 80 of our VCE students attended Australia's biggest career and education expo where they spoke to university providers and registered training organisations about pathway options, career goals, and opportunities
~International Student Career Expo~
Being able to assist our international students 'find their feet' with pathway choices for higher education was an informative and varied experience tailored to our cohort. This was a fantastic and exciting initiative that the students took a lot away from.

****University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand (UCAT ANZ)****
Applications close 17 May 2019.
So what is it?
Want to be a Doctor or Dentist??? Read on!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is an admissions test used by the UCAT ANZ Consortium of universities in Australia and New Zealand for their medical, dental and clinical science degree programmes.
The UCAT ANZ test will replace the UMAT (Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test) from 2019 (for university entry in 2020).
The test helps universities to select applicants with the most appropriate abilities and professional behaviours required for new doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers. It is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as interviews and academic qualifications.
Students who are planning to apply to Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science courses commencing in 2020 at our Consortium universities in Australia and New Zealand must sit the UCAT ANZ 2019 test in the month of July 2019.
Where do students register?
Registration and Booking are open at the UCAT ANZ website and will close on 17 May 2019 at 11:59pm AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time).
The UCAT ANZ is a 2-hour, computer-based test, multiple choice test. Candidates will sit the test at Pearson VUE test centres located in Australia, New Zealand and some overseas centres. For information about where test centres are offered, see Test Centre Locations on the website.
The UCAT ANZ is offered on a choice of dates throughout the month of July, rather than on one single date.
