Happy October! As we head into a new month, there's an important update for local businesses to be aware of.

From 1 October 2026, businesses can no longer apply card payment surcharges to transactions made using Visa, Mastercard, eftpos and American Express.

While businesses will still be charged card processing fees, these costs can no longer be passed on to customers as a separate surcharge. Taking some time to understand how this change may affect your business can help you plan ahead and make any necessary adjustments to your pricing.

We know many small businesses are already navigating rising costs and changing conditions. A good place to start may be reviewing your payment processing fees and understanding where those costs come from, so you can make informed decisions for your business.

It's also important to note that this change does not affect weekend, public holiday or other permitted surcharges. However, customers should be able to clearly understand what they will pay before making a purchase. Clear signage, menu notices, website information and staff communication can all help ensure customers are informed and confident about any applicable surcharges.

Wishing you and your business a successful month ahead! ✨

🚀 Congratulations to Hoops and Cookies for earning a spot among this year's Excellence in Community and Partnership finalists for our 2026 Casey Business Awards.

The business is also working towards establishing a creative and production hub where students, entrepreneurs, athletes and local businesses can connect, collaborate and grow.
