๐๐ฅ **FIRE DANGER PERIOD โ KNOW THE RULES!** ๐ฅ๐
With quiet a few inquiries after our earlier post, we have added some light reading ๐
With the Fire Danger Period now in place across Wellington Shire, it's important that everyone understands what you **CAN and CANNOT do**.
๐ข **WHAT YOU CAN DO (WITH CONDITIONS)**
๐ฅ **BURNING OFF**
โ
Only with a valid written Fire Danger Period permit issued by the relevant authority.
โ
Follow ALL permit conditions.
โ
Register your permitted burn-off:
๐ www.firepermits.vic.gov.au (if planning to burn in over 2 hours time)
๐ 1800 668 511 (if planning to burn in under 2 hours time)
โ
Never leave a fire unattended and fully extinguish it before leaving.
๐ **BARBECUES & CAMPFIRES**
โ
Gas and electric BBQs are permitted subject to applicable safety rules.
โ
Wood-fired BBQs and campfires may be permitted during the Fire Danger Period if:
โข Winds are below 10 km/h.
โข The campfire is no larger than 1m ร 1m.
โข The campfire is in a properly constructed fireplace or trench at least 30cm deep.
โข A 3-metre area around and above the fire is clear of flammable materials.
โข A responsible person supervises the fire with equipment to extinguish it.
โข The fire is completely extinguished before leaving.
๐ **FARM MACHINERY, MOWING & HOT WORKS**
โ
Machinery must be properly maintained and have required fire protection equipment.
โ
When operating certain machinery in dry vegetation, have at least 9 litres of water in an appropriate extinguisher or knapsack spray pump.
โ
Welding, grinding and other hot works require spark protection, a cleared or wetted-down work area and suitable firefighting equipment.
๐ด **WHAT YOU CANNOT DO**
โ Burn grass, stubble, weeds or scrub without a valid permit.
โ Leave a fire unattended or leave before it is completely extinguished.
โ Light campfires or use wood-fired BBQs when the required safety conditions cannot be met.
โ Ignore Total Fire Ban restrictions.
๐จ **TOTAL FIRE BAN DAYS โ STRICTER RULES APPLY!**
โ Ordinary Fire Danger Period permits do not authorise burning on Total Fire Ban days.
โ Campfires and outdoor solid-fuel BBQs are banned.
โ Welding, grinding and other hot works are prohibited without a special exemption or permit.
โ
Gas and electric BBQs may still be used if all Total Fire Ban safety conditions are met.
โ๏ธ **PENALTIES APPLY**
Breaking fire restrictions or allowing a fire to escape can result in significant fines, prosecution and possible imprisonment.
