Nhulunbuy Fire and Rescue Service

11/09/2026

Today, we honour the firefighters and emergency responders who showed extraordinary courage on 9 September 2001.

25 years later, we remember those who lost their lives, those who served, and the families and communities forever changed.

Their sacrifice and commitment to helping others will never be forgotten.

🚨🔥 COMMUNITY NOTICE – Planned Hazard Reduction Burn🔥🚒

On **Saturday, 11 July**, crews from Nhulunbuy Fire and Rescue Service 🚒 will be working alongside the Dhimurru Rangers to conduct a planned hazard reduction burn of Mt Nhulun.

🕐 When: From approximately **1:00 pm** and continuing into the evening.

🚒 **Please be aware:** Emergency service vehicles will be moving regularly along the fire breaks and access tracks throughout the operation.

🙏 If possible, we'd really appreciate the community avoiding the Mt Nhulun area during the burn. Reducing traffic helps keep our crews safe and allows the operation to run smoothly. 🚒👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

💨🔥 Smoke Alert: Smoke may be visible around Nhulunbuy and surrounding areas for several days after the burn. This is normal and expected as part of the planned operation.

❤️ Thank you for your patience, understanding and support as we work to reduce bushfire risk and help protect our community. 🌿🏡

This is a planned training exercise only and there is no cause for concern.

Training like this helps our crews maintain operational readiness, strengthen teamwork, and ensure we are prepared when the community needs us most.

Please take care if travelling nearby and give emergency vehicles plenty of space.
