SES Wonthaggi Unit VICSES is the control agency for Storm, Flood, Earthquake, Tsunami and Landslide events. We are also the largest provider of Road Rescue in Australia.

The Wonthaggi Unit members are available to respond to emergencies 24 hours 7 days a week.

I'm sure most people in the Wonthaggi area felt that little bump in the night 😳. That was an earthquake measuring 4.8 originating near our neighbours up north in Leongatha.

If you felt the earthquake, stay calm, check for hazards, and be prepared for possible aftershocks.

If you feel an earthquake, remember: Drop, Cover, Hold On. Stay where you are until the shaking stops.

Yesterday our unit deployed as part of a large multi agency response to rescue and injured person off the rock near the George Bass Walk.

Our Wonthaggi members played in key parts of coordination and ex*****on of the rescue plan along with our partner agencies.

From high angle rescue operators to command and control, to members maintain rescue coverage in the Bass Coast area during that time, they all did a fantastic job under some challenging circumstances.

What a cracking day for our members to be outside smashing out their fit for role assessment. 💪

Today we congratulate and recognise a collective total of 15 years service these 3 members have provided to the Wonthaggi and surrounding community.

Their service has included countless hours of training, and responding to events ranged from floods and road accidents. Dropping everything at a moments notice, these three are among many who respond to the call for help and have made a difference to the lives of so many people.

On Sunday morning the Wonthaggi SES Unit partnered up with Voyage Fitness Wonthaggi to celebrate the units 50th anniversary with fitness twist.

As part of ensuring our operation response members safety and capability, VICSES has a Fit for Role program to ensure that all our responding members are physically fit to perform their roles. This extends to all operational roles from Road and Rope Rescue incidents to Tree Down and Building Damage events.

Our Fit to Respond event was a great way to interact and sweat it out with the community. The event saw a great turn out from the Voyage Fitness members who got an opportunity to meet our members face to face and learn more about how the Wonthaggi SES Unit serves the community of Bass Coast.

A big thanks to Voyage Fitness for supporting the event 💪.

The Wonthaggi Unit was saddened to hear of the loss of OM David Bartley. David left behind a legacy through his service to the wider gippsland community as both as a Volunteer and staff member.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time and we take comfort knowing that he is now resting in peace.
