BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD- SNOWY MONARO LGA- COMMENCING THURSDAY 1ST OCTOBER, 2026.
FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED.
The Bush Fire Danger Period will commence at midnight tonight, Thursday 1st October, 2026, in the Snowy Monaro LGA and continue until 31st March, 2027.
From midnight tonight, a fire permit is required for all fires in the open (with the exception of cooking & small recreational fires).
With continuing dry conditions across the district their is a significant risk of fires readily igniting and travelling through the landscape.
We are calling on all members of the community to assist in keeping our community safe from fire over the coming months by taking all care to stop fire ignitions.
Some ways you can help are:
- Ensuring any cooking/recreational fires are fully extinguished (using water) before leaving unattended.
- Do not undertake hot works (welding/grinding) in the open during the hotter, windier times of the day.
- Do not undertake slashing or mowing during the hotter, windier times of the day.
- Avoid driving any vehicles in areas of dry grass during the hotter, windier times of the day.
- Maintain your vehicles, mowers and equipment ensuring there is no build up of dry grasses in areas that could cause them to catch fire.

OK, NO FIRES on SUNDAY 20/09/2026.
I f you already been doing some reduction buring, keep an eye that there is no re-ignition.
This advice is probably the first in a long line we will experience as we move towards summer. So keep an eye out for any unattended fires and notify 000 if you spot anything.

BURN NOTIFICATIONS SUSPENDED – Sunday 20th September 2026
The Snowy Monaro is forecast to experience HIGH fire danger conditions on Sunday 20th September 2026. As a result, all burn notifications issued by the RFS have been suspended.
These conditions can create a real fire risk across our landscape, if you have been burning please check your previous burns.
ONE EMBER CAN END IT - Embers from a fire can spread quickly and quite a distance, putting communities well away from the main fire at risk.

A very real issue that goes beyond one day. Check on your mates and never assume they are ok.
I have a bit of disquiet about the mascots though. Personally I think the maggie is discussing tactical airstrikes during swooping season and tutoring the wombat how to do the same at ground level. Gotta watch these sneaky lot.😲
Mind you, our lot are too busy to worry about people and random firefighters wandering into their territory.
