Thinking about buying an electric fat bike?

Fat bikes are easy to spot thanks to their extra-wide tyres, but don't assume every electric fat bike is a legal e-bike.

Some models are capable of speeds and power levels that place them in the motorcycle category.

If that's the case, riders need:

✅ Registration
✅ A motorcycle licence or learner permit
✅ To be 18+

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers have caught a 17-year-old boy speeding in Glen Waverley this weekend.

Officers were on patrol when they detected a black BMW sedan allegedly being driven at 153km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Monash Freeway about 5.05pm on Saturday 17 October.

When officers approached the driver’s side of the BMW, they discovered a learners permit bearing 17-year-old boy behind the wheel.

His only passenger, an 18-year-old man, held a suspended probationary licence and therefore could not be a considered a licensed supervising driver.

The BMW was also not displaying learner driver plates at the time and was subsequently impounded at a cost of $1159.

The 17-year-old is expected to be charged on summons with numerous traffic offences.

The last day of school is a chance to celebrate with your mates.

But there’s a difference between a harmless prank and something that leaves behind the damage, injuries or a police report.

Have fun but stay safe.
