☕🏉 A coffee, a catch-up and a bit of rugby talk!

It was great to catch up again with Phil Kearns, former Wallabies captain and rugby legend, alongside Orange City Council CEO Scott Maunder.

Phil has recently become an Orange resident, which is fantastic news for our community. It’s always good to catch up, have a chat and, on this occasion, enjoy a coffee while talking about sport and the opportunities ahead.

With the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia next year, there’s plenty to discuss about the game we love and the opportunities major sporting events can bring to regional communities like Orange.

Great to see you, Phil. Welcome to Orange! 👏🏉

🌿🏆 ORANGE PROUD TO HOST THE 2026 NSW TIDY TOWNS AWARDS!

It was a pleasure to welcome her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beasley ACKC - Governor of NSW, as well as communities from across NSW to Orange for the 2026 Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Tidy Towns Sustainability Awards.

The weekend included a welcoming function, category awards, shared case studies and tours showcasing our wonderful region, including visits to Mount Canobolas – Gaanha-Bula and Ross Hill Wines, a carbon-neutral vineyard.

As last year’s Overall Tidy Towns winner, Orange was proud to host this event and showcase our region to visitors from across the state.

These awards celebrate the people, volunteers, community groups, businesses and councils working hard to protect our environment and make their communities better places to live.

Congratulations to National Finalist Dungog and all the finalists and award recipients, and sincere thanks to Keep Australia Beautiful NSW and everyone involved in making the weekend such a success.

I hope our visitors enjoyed their time in Orange and returned home with new ideas, lasting connections and inspiration to share with their own communities.

🌟 Shine in the Vine – Anson Street School

It was a pleasure to attend the Shine in the Vine event this morning, supporting the wonderful Anson Street School and its more than 130 students.

Anson Street School plays an incredibly important role in our community, providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to develop their abilities, build confidence and reach their full potential.

Events like this are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the students, recognise the dedication of the school’s staff and families, and raise valuable funds to support the school and its students.

A sincere thank you to the Gnoo Blas Classic Car Club for supporting this wonderful initiative, along with everyone involved in organising and contributing to the event.

Our community is stronger when we come together to support organisations that make such a positive difference in the lives of others. 👏

🚗 Big Boys Toys – Great Cars, Great Community, Great Cause!

It was a pleasure to attend Big Boys Toys this morning and see such a fantastic turnout, with an incredible collection of classic cars, performance vehicles, motorcycles, trucks and unique machinery.

Events like this are about much more than showcasing impressive vehicles. They bring people together through a shared passion while raising vital funds for Can Assist, supporting local people and families affected by cancer.

Congratulations to the Gnoo Blas Classic Car Club and West Orange Motors for bringing this wonderful event together, and a big thank you to all the vehicle owners, volunteers, sponsors and everyone who contributed to making it such a success.

Your generosity and community spirit make a real difference to people doing it tough.

It’s wonderful to see our community come together for such a worthwhile cause. 👏❤️

🎓 Celebrating the achievements of our local students!

It was a privilege to attend the Country Education Foundation of Orange District event tonight to celebrate the achievements, aspirations and determination of our local grant recipients.

It was wonderful to hear directly from these remarkable young people and learn how the Foundation is helping them pursue their goals through university, apprenticeships, trades, TAFE and other training opportunities.

Since its establishment, the Foundation has supported almost 200 local students with more than $417,000 in financial assistance, helping remove financial barriers and ensuring talent, ambition and hard work have the opportunity to shine.

I was incredibly impressed by the students and their commitment to creating a bright future for themselves. Their achievements are something our community can be very proud of.

A heartfelt thank you to Juliet Petersen and the entire CEF Orange District team, along with the dedicated volunteers, committee members, donors, sponsors and supporters who make this wonderful work possible.

Tonight was a powerful reminder that when we invest in our young people, we invest in the future of our entire region. 👏

Today I spoke with Prime7 News about Rex’s decision to indefinitely suspend flights between Orange and Sydney, in both directions, from 25 October.

This is disappointing news for Orange and the wider Central West, given the importance of reliable air services for our residents, local businesses, medical travellers and visitors.

However, there are positive developments. Today, our Council CEO Scott Maunder and I held encouraging discussions with Qantas regarding the potential to accommodate passenger demand arising from Rex’s decision. We were encouraged by the capacity Qantas indicated may be available, and we will continue working to explore opportunities for our region.

As Mayor, I will continue advocating for reliable and accessible air services that connect our community with Sydney and support the ongoing growth and prosperity of Orange and the Central West.

Thank you to Prime7 News for the opportunity to discuss this important issue and highlight both the challenges and the opportunities ahead for our region.

🏁🏎️ What an incredible day at the Bathurst Repco 1000!

The atmosphere at Mount Panorama is electric, with the roar of the engines, passionate fans and plenty of excitement around the track.

A special highlight was the wonderful tribute to racing legend Peter Brock, the much-loved “King of the Mountain”, whose legacy remains an important part of Australian motorsport history. 👑🏁

Congratulations to the organisers, volunteers and everyone behind the scenes, and well done to Bathurst Regional Council for helping deliver this world-class event.

The Bathurst 1000 is a fantastic showcase for our region, attracting visitors from across Australia and providing a significant boost to local businesses.

An unforgettable day celebrating motorsport, community and regional NSW! 👏

🎂 Celebrating 50 Years of the Orange Civic Centre!

It was a pleasure to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the official opening of the Orange Civic Centre and have the honour of cutting the celebratory cake.

Officially opened in 1976 by the Governor of NSW, Sir Roden Cutler, the Civic Centre has played an important role in the life of our city for half a century.

Designed to serve as the home of Orange City Council, a theatre for performances and a venue for community meetings and conferences, the building has been an important civic, cultural and community hub for generations of Orange residents.

As we celebrate this significant milestone, we recognise the vision of those who helped create a facility to meet the needs of a growing city and the many people who have worked, performed, met and made memories within its walls over the past 50 years.

Here’s to celebrating our history, recognising our progress and looking forward to the next chapter for Orange!
