Today marks the official start of the bush fire season, with the Bush Fire Danger Period beginning in most NSW Local Government Areas.

If you’re planning on conducting a burn, you’ll require a fire permit from your local Fire Control Centre or brigade. Fire permits help ensure fire is used safely and reduces the danger to you, your property and the community.

Residents and land holders must know the rules when it comes to the use of fire. Along with having the required fire permits, you need to notify your local fire authority and neighbours of your intent to burn at least 24 hours in advance.

For more information on the Bush Fire Danger Period and requirements around safe burning, visit our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

Late last night the Orchard Hills RFS cadets returned home from Dub-Vegas.

Our Orchard Hills RFS Cadets placed 2nd over all in the Juniors division.

We couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented Orchard Hills — their teamwork, effort and attitude throughout the weekend were outstanding.

Thank you to the parents who stayed back late on a school night when our training sessions ran late and to NSW Rural Fire Service - Cumberland/Macarthur District for the assistance with vehicles and last minute PPC and uniform requests

Well done Black Lambs — you’ve done the brigade proud! 🖤🐑🔥

The Black Lambs are Dubbo bound! 🐑🔥🚒

Our Orchard Hills RFS Cadets are on their way to the NSW RFS State Championships for a huge weekend of competition, teamwork and fun.

The championships give cadets the chance to put their skills to the test across a range of challenges based around firefighting, teamwork, communication, problem-solving and practical RFS skills — all while competing against cadet teams from across NSW.

They took it out last year — now they’re heading back to Dub-Vegas to give it another crack! 💪🏆

Good luck Black Lambs! 🖤🐑🔥
