๐Ÿš’ A COMMUNITY-LED VISION FOR DEEP CREEK RESERVE โ€” WELCOMING PAKENHAM CFA

Pakenham Golf Club is proud to announce that our community-led redevelopment vision for Deep Creek Reserve now includes an opportunity to accommodate CFA - Pakenham Fire Brigade (CFA) as part of a broader plan to deliver lasting benefits for our local community.

Following discussions about how surplus land within the reserve could be put to better community use, we have explored the potential to incorporate a new fire station into our proposal.

Pakenham Fire Brigade has been an important part of our community for generations, and we believe there is a real opportunity to consider how Deep Creek Reserve could support its future needs while delivering a range of other community benefits.

Our vision has always been about more than golf. It is about bringing community organisations together, making better use of public land and creating a sustainable future for Deep Creek Reserve.

Alongside the proposed restoration of golf, our broader vision includes opportunities for basketball, a new home for the Cardinia Menโ€™s Shed, community housing and environmental improvements โ€” all within a coordinated, community-focused redevelopment.

By working together, we have an opportunity to create a reserve that serves more people, supports more organisations and delivers benefits for generations to come.

One reserve. One community. A future built together. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธ

๐Ÿš’ Pre-Summer Training: Putting Our Skills to the Test! ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

With summer fast approaching, our members have been putting their skills to the test as we kick off our pre-summer training!

This week, we took a different approach with a map-reading scavenger hunt. Four teams set out to navigate their way across six locations, decoding cryptic clues and completing challenges along the way. Each stop tested our membersโ€™ radio communications, teamwork and map-reading skills.

The crews were a real mixed bag, bringing together members with fresh eyes and new perspectives alongside our more seasoned firefighters. Different personalities, experiences and approaches made for an interesting and engaging session, with plenty of opportunities to learn from one another along the way! ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš’

While these skills are important all year round, they become particularly valuable as we head into the summer period. Effective communication, teamwork under pressure and confident navigation are essential when responding to incidents and deploying on strike teams.

As we gear up for summer, our members continue to build the skills, confidence and teamwork needed to support our community when it matters most. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿš’ BRIGADE TRAINING TONIGHT ๐Ÿš’

Pakenham Fire Brigade will be conducting training on Army Road tonight.

If youโ€™re in the area and see red and blue lights, fire trucks and firefighters, thereโ€™s no need to worry. This is a planned training exercise and not an emergency incident.

Weโ€™ll be using the opportunity to practise skills and keep our crews prepared to respond when the community needs us most.

Thanks for your understanding and, as always, stay safe! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿš’ Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb ๐Ÿš’

Congratulations to Nat Morgan and Shymma Harris on completing the annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb today.

Both took on the gruelling 28-floor challenge fully donned in breathing apparatus, finishing with an outstanding:

๐Ÿ‘ Nat Morgan | 11:32
๐Ÿ‘ Shymma Harris | 11:36

The Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb is more than a test of physical endurance. Firefighters take on the climb carrying up to 25kg of firefighting equipment to raise vital funds and awareness for cancer research, crisis support and the mental health and wellbeing of emergency service personnel.

Funds raised this year support Lifeline, Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation and the 000 Foundation.

An incredible effort from Nat and Shymma, representing the brigade and supporting an important cause for our emergency services community.

Well done to you both! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿš’ Six new General Firefighters! ๐Ÿš’

Today, six of our members successfully completed their General Firefighter (GFF) training, taking an important step towards becoming operational members of Pakenham Fire Brigade.

Completing GFF means these members can now join us on the truck and respond to incidents alongside our experienced crews. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

A huge congratulations to all six members on reaching this milestone. Weโ€™re looking forward to seeing you out on the truck and continuing your development as firefighters.

Just in time for summer! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ With the warmer months ahead, weโ€™re thrilled to have six more trained members ready to support our crews and our community when theyโ€™re needed most.

Welcome to the crew! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’

Yesterday, members of Pakenham Fire Brigade were honoured to attend the Neil Poulton Memorial Games at the Pakenham Football Club

Neil Poulton dedicated his life to serving others, both as a firefighter and within the local community. He was a respected mentor, trainer, teammate and friend whose legacy continues to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

It was a privilege to stand alongside crews from P93, LP87 and Hazmat 88, brigades that Neil proudly served with throughout his career, as we joined his family, friends and the football community in celebrating his life.

As firefighters, we often speak about carrying the pager for those who came before us. Today was a reminder that while Neil may no longer be answering the call, we are proud to continue rolling out on the shifts he once worked, serving our community in his honour and carrying forward the values he embodied every day.

Thank you to Pakenham Football Club for continuing to honour Neilโ€™s legacy through this special event.

Forever remembered. Forever one of our own. โค๏ธ

27/07/2026

On Saturday at 12:00 pm, Pakenham Fire Brigade responded to a vehicle fire in the local area in support of FRV P93, with 14 members responding to the initial incident.

Our Pumper Tanker, Tanker, BA Support and FCV responded, with five members operating in Breathing Apparatus (BA) to safely extinguish the fire. Due to the location and nature of the incident, crews deployed several hundred metres of hose lines to establish water supply and safely manage the fire. Crews remained on scene for several hours before returning to John Street at approximately 4:00 pm.

Once back at the station, the work continued. Members thoroughly washed down all appliances, refilled BA cylinders, cleaned and rehung hose on our hose tower to dry, and restowed equipment to ensure every appliance was returned to operational readiness as quickly as possible. We were also fortunate to have some of our current General Firefighter (GFF) cohort assisting with these important behind-the-scenes tasks.

At 8:22 pm, crews were responded back to the same address following a re-ignition. This is not uncommon with vehicle fires, particularly where metal components retain significant heat long after the flames have been extinguished. To minimise unnecessary exposure to smoke and other hazards, the two Pakenham members who attended the initial incident reattended, alongside two additional Pakenham members, to extinguish remaining hot spots and ensure the scene was safe.

In total, 16 Pakenham Fire Brigade members contributed across both responses.

A huge thank you goes to every member involved. Whether you were on the fireground, back at the station restoring appliances, or supporting logistics, your teamwork and professionalism ensured a safe and effective response.

Weโ€™d also like to extend our sincere thanks to the supporting brigades, specialist appliances and partner agencies that assisted throughout the incident:

๐Ÿš’ Officer Fire Brigade (Pumper & Rehab)
๐Ÿš’ Pakenham Pumper Tanker, Tanker, BA support and FCV
๐Ÿš’ P93 (FRV)
๐Ÿš’ Nar Nar Goon Pumper
๐Ÿš’ Toomuc Tanker
๐Ÿš’ Hallam P88
๐Ÿš’ Dandenong LP87
๐Ÿš’ Hazmat 88 (Hallam)
๐Ÿš’ BA38 (Richmond)
๐Ÿš’ Scoresby Hose Layer
๐Ÿš’ Bayswater BA Support
๐Ÿš’ District Car 93
๐Ÿ‘ฎ Victoria Police
๐Ÿš‘ Ambulance Victoria
๐ŸŒฟ Environment Protection Authority (EPA)

A special thank you also goes to our neighbouring brigades who provided additional Breathing Apparatus (BA) operators to assist with relief crews. Working in BA is physically demanding, with firefighters carrying significant equipment while operating in hot, hazardous environments. Relief crews are essential to allow firefighters to safely rotate out as their air supply is depleted, manage fatigue and rehabilitation, and ensure operations can continue safely and effectively for the duration of the incident.

Finally, weโ€™d like to thank our community for keeping the roads clear while emergency services were working. Your patience and cooperation allowed responding crews to access the scene safely.

๐Ÿšจ A reminder: If you come across an emergency incident, please avoid the area unless absolutely necessary. While we understand it can be tempting to stop and watch, unnecessary traffic can delay emergency vehicles, make it more difficult for crews to work safely, and place both responders and the community at greater risk.

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe. โค๏ธ๐Ÿš’

At Pakenham Fire Brigade, every member has their own reason for volunteering. This week weโ€™re introducing Cayden, one of our newest operational firefighters.

๐Ÿ”ฅ What inspired you to join CFA?
โ€œIโ€™ve always wanted to help my local community. I joined Pakenham Fire Brigade to help people when they need it while also experiencing and overcoming new challenges.โ€

๐Ÿ“… How long have you been volunteering?
โ€œI joined CFA in September 2025 and became operational about two months ago. So far, volunteering has been some of the most fun and rewarding experiences Iโ€™ve ever had.โ€

๐Ÿ’ช How has CFA helped you grow?
โ€œVolunteering has built my confidence, resilience and ability to stay calm under pressure. Itโ€™s also shown me just how important teamwork is during challenging times.โ€

๐Ÿ“š How do you balance CFA with everyday life?
โ€œI balance CFA with school and other commitments, but when the pager goes off and Iโ€™m home, Iโ€™m always ready to jump on the truck.โ€

๐Ÿ™Œ What would you say to someone thinking about joining?
โ€œGive it a go. You donโ€™t need to know everything when you join. Everyone starts somewhere, and the brigade is there to support anyone whoโ€™s willing to give it a try.โ€

๐Ÿšจ Whatโ€™s it like when the pager activates?
โ€œI get excited, but I focus on staying calm so I can do my part safely.โ€

โญ Three words that describe you?
Dedicated. Reliable. Motivated.

โค๏ธ Whatโ€™s been your most memorable experience so far?
โ€œMy first turnout. I was excited but also nervous. Once I got on the truck, I remembered my training, stayed calm and everything went well.โ€

๐Ÿค What does Pakenham Fire Brigade mean to you?
โ€œItโ€™s one big family thatโ€™s willing to support and help anyone who needs it.โ€

๐Ÿš’ What keeps you motivated to volunteer?
โ€œKnowing I can help the community while learning new skills and having fun keeps me coming back.โ€

Thank you, Cayden, for your dedication to our brigade and our community. Weโ€™re proud to have you as part of the Pakenham Fire Brigade family.

If youโ€™ve ever thought about volunteering with CFA, now is a great time to get involved. Whether youโ€™re interested in responding to emergencies or supporting the brigade in other ways, thereโ€™s a place for you.
