1 Field Squadron recently deployed a team to support the 26th Garma Festival, delivering an essential combat engineer effect to one of Australia’s most significant cultural events.

Our Sappers achieved:
- Qualification of 15 personnel in Intermediate Tree Felling
- Supply of 40 tons of firewood for festival activities
- Clearance of deadfall and cyclone‑damaged trees to ensure a safe environment for more than 3,500 attendees
- Strengthening of our timber‑winning skills in support of operational requirements
- Building our disaster‑response capability to better support local communities across the Northern Territory

We are proud to stand alongside our community, enhance our readiness for war, and contribute to the success of Garma Festival 2026

Mind the gap? Nah just Bridge it... 9 Fd Sqn spent battle PT building an improvised floating bridge, using the highly versatile Army Utility Watercraft (AUW). This allowed our mates from 1 Fd Sqn to cross the pool high and dry. Sometimes you just need to build a bridge and get over it.

What happens when the SSM is stabbed with running Battle PT? 9 Fd Sqn spent Wednesday morning with fixed Bayonets. Bayonet Training instills a Combat Mindset in our Sappers while practicing controlled agrression and disciplined violence. 9 Fd is ready to keep calm and fix bayonets should the need arise.

Combat Rescue Troop recently had the opportunity to work alongside NTPOL SAR/Traffic, St John NT, and TACMED/TOLL Aeromedical clinicians and crew during a Remote Retrieval Exercise at Lee Point. ⛑️

The exercise provided a great opportunity to work together in a realistic remote trauma scenario, focusing on patient care and packaging, casualty movement, interagency coordination and preparation for aeromedical winch retrieval. 🚁

A valuable day of training and a great chance to build relationships and learn from the different agencies and capabilities involved. 🙌

🚧💪🛠️ Going Underground 🛠️💪🚧

Construction Troop, 23 SPT SQN, recently completed a containerised bunker, with aim to provide a functional command post solution and reduce construction timelines contrast to conventional bunkers. This reduces exposure for our Sappers in hostile environments and provides an increased level of hardening and resilience for command nodes to operate from. 📡

Designed with consideration to communications requirements, overhead protection, full blackout lighting, and incorporating internal electrical, ventilation, and plumbed drainage solutions, the bunker sits within a steel and HESCO exo-skeleton, enabling rapid installation. Construction required strong cooperation between trade 🦺, plant 🚜 and combat engineer🪏elements, seeing involvement across a suite of our Regimental engineer capabilities.

The final product looks great - Check out the journey and the results!!
