Have you seen this ant? 🔥🐜
The invasive and dangerous red fire ant has been found this week in Sydney, at a warehouse facility in Strathfield. The nest has been eradicated and authorities are searching the surrounding area to ensure the ants have not spread.
The red fire ant is highly invasive and their stings can lead to hospitalisation or even death. They pose a significant threat to Australia's environment, economy, agricultural industries, wildlife and people's health.
The ants are 2- 6 mm long, dark red brown in colour and live in nests in the ground. Red fire ant nests look like patches or mounds of loose soil that don't have an obvious entrance or exit hole.
If you think you might have seen a fire ant or found a nest take photos and videos of the ants as closely as possible without disturbing the nest. Then make a report by calling 13 22 68 or online at fireants.org.au

We had a lovely time at our Get Into Nature - Bush Tales and Trails - Bush Magic event yesterday at Lake Parramatta 🪶✨💚.
The children enjoyed a sensory bushwalk where we saw lots of water dragons and birds 🐦, felt different seed pods, and smelt the crushed leaves of the native rice flower plant 🌸.
We then had story time followed by bush craft where the children became kings and queens of the bush 👑!

Crikey! We've got a big one today for 🦗
This Southern Mole Cricket (Gryllotalpa australis) came jumping out of the earth during a planting session at Winston Hills last month. Mole Crickets live most of their life underground, with the adult males calling from inside their burrows for females to fly in and mate with. Burrowing insects like Mole Crickets are essential to mixing the soil beneath our feet and keeping it aerated and healthy.

Let's put a name to the little face you've likely been seeing a lot of lately - the Bogong moth! 🦋
Sydney alongside most of NSW has been inundated with this endangered moth over the last week, and they have certainly been making their presence felt. You wouldn't normally consider an animal numbered in their millions to be endangered however these moths have had a population crash of up to 99.5% since the 1980's and in recent years have been rarely sighted.
This makes their current numbers very exciting, with experts crediting favourable weather conditions for their return. 🌬
Bogong moths migrate to the NSW Alps each year to escape the summer heat and are a crucial food source for native birds and pygmy possums. 🐦
They travel thousands of kilometres on this journey and may have a short stop over at your home on their way. If they do make a visit please gently put them back outside and turn off lights or close your curtains to avoid attracting them into your home. 💚

The kids got very inventive playing at the falls, painting rocks, making bug houses and weaving their own magic wand!💚✨
