What a weekend at the Koori Knockout celebrating First Nations cultures!

BDA staff joined our NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure colleagues at the annual Koori Knockout, one of the state's longest-running and biggest sporting and cultural events.

It was great to catch up with Danny Lester, Executive Director of Aboriginal Strategy, Policy and Engagement (ASPE), and the rest of the ASPE team to spread some excitement about the many opportunities for community in Bradfield City and Western Sydney.

Congratulations to the organisers Koori Knockout on such a successful event and well done to the Wiradjuri Aboriginal Rivers (WAR) team for taking out the title.

September is Biodiversity Month! The team from Nature Conservation have been out to Bradfield City to inspect the 56 nest boxes installed over the past 2 years.

Using a telescopic camera that reaches to the tops of trees and into the nest boxes, the team were able to detect a number of native species that have been active in the boxes, including possums and sugar gliders - swipe through to see who they spotted!

These boxes are located within existing pockets of bushland in Bradfield City, providing extra safe habitats for the species that call our region home.

A diverse group of Aboriginal Elders, community leaders, cultural knowledge holders and professionals have been appointed to help shape the future of Bradfield City.

They will offer cultural advice and contribute to Bradfield City and AMRF projects, ensuring a city that celebrates Country, and respects the ancient land on which it is built. Together they bring a world of valuable experience.

Applications remain open so members of the Aboriginal community can apply to join at any time.

Why will Central Park have a First Nations name?

A First Nations name for Bradfield City’s Central Park will showcase its deep connection to Country and role as a welcoming gathering place in Bradfield City.

We are currently seeking public input into choosing a First Nations name in a local Aboriginal language for the 2-hectare park in the heart of Bradfield City, that will begin construction later this year.

Swipe through to explore how the park has been designed with Country, and why its naming is an important feature of this.
