🏆 ChemCentre, Forensic Science Laboratory and PathWest, Forensic Biology are the winners of the 2025 Western Australia's Innovators of the Year (WAIOTY) Government Innovators of the Year category! 🏆

Introduced in 2024, the Government Innovators of the Year category recognises Western Australian government entity employees who are innovating, creating novel IP and adding value to public service delivery.

This award is sponsored by the Australian Innovation Management Institute (AIMI), who will provide places for up to 5 team members on their AIMI Certified Innovation Catalyst Program.

The team created a new forensic capability in Western Australia by using the hair shaft proteome for protein-based human identification. Their work is focused on translating long-established biological concepts into a technology for identification of humans into a usable forensic tool, developing and implementing an internationally accredited forensic process that will provide a robust and objective analysis of single hair shafts, providing a proteomics profile to achieve unique human identification for both evidential and investigative purposes.

🏆 Medi Manage (Automated Pill Dispenser) is the winner of the inaugural Western Australia's Innovators of the Year (WAIOTY) Young Entrepreneurs Academy of WA (YEA) Young Innovators of the Year category! 🏆

Sponsored by the YEA, the WA Young Innovators of the Year award acknowledges and rewards exceptional young innovators in Western Australia who have developed an outstanding innovative product, technology, or service that clearly demonstrates an economic, social or environmental benefit to Western Australia.

The winner of this award category will receive a $1,000 cash prize as well as $10,000 value in-kind support facilitated by the advertising, subscription and sponsorship pack with YEA.

Current products on the market include automatic container dispensers that release one manually pre-filled container per day, requiring users to manually place the correct dosage of each pill into each container. If an error occurs during setup, the user will have the incorrect pills dispensed.

Medi Manage is an automated SMART pill dispenser connected to an iOS mobile app via Bluetooth. It organises multiple medications and releases the correct dose at the right time, helping users manage complex routines safely and reliably.

The Wesfarmers Wellbeing Platinum Award category is awarded to a WA innovator who has developed an outstanding innovative product, technology, process or service that advances social or medical wellbeing in the community.

The winner of the award category will be awarded a cash prize of $30,000.

Emyria operates Australia’s first psychiatrist-led, evidence-based medication-assisted therapy program for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), in purpose-built Empax Centres. The WAPUS provides international students with a $50,000 scholarship to support their course fees and other university costs in WA.

On Monday 3 November, the Department of Energy and Economic Development hosted the Western Australia’s 2025 Innovators of the Year (WAIOTY) Awards ceremony at Crown Perth.

At the dinner, up to 300 attendees recognised and celebrated the outstanding Western Australians developing innovative products, technologies, and services. 👏

🏆 This year's nine winners and two runners-up were announced by each award sponsor together with WA’s Minister for Science and Innovation, Stephen Dawson presenting all the winners with their trophies and prizes on stage.

Their game-changing innovative projects range from insulin resistance to fashionable protective eyewear to insulin resistance, to a precision-guided drill for underground operations and a software-first hardware-agnostic platform that enables existing and new vessels to operate remotely or autonomously.

This year also saw the introduction of a new category, the YEA WA Young Innovators of the Year Award.
