Throwback to the first Great Global Mend, almost exactly one year ago! Will you join us this year and help reduce Australia's textile waste? Bring a well-loved garment or other textile item and we'll help you get it mended and back into rotation - no sewing experience required!

This year's Great Global Mend will take place on Saturday 7 November. Sign up for free and meet us at The Grove Library or Subiaco Library and Museum to get mending. 🪡

Put those random, unwanted stationery items taking up space at home to good use with Give Write! They're seeking donations of new or lightly used stationery and school supplies to distribute to kids, teachers and schools that need them.

Make sure your items are clean and usable and drop them off at the West Metro Recycling Centre to give them another life.

We're excited to be hosting another clothing swap with Loraine the Feelgood Fashionista at Solaris Cancer Care Op Shop! Come along to refresh your wardrobe for summer - without the spend or the waste.

Bring your quality unwanted clothes, shoes and accessories and swap them for new-to-you items that you’ll love to wear.

Plus, Loraine will discuss how you can build a sustainable wardrobe that works for you.

Volunteers from Repair Lab will also be on hand to help you mend your clothing items with rips, holes or missing buttons, so they can stay in your life for longer.

📅 Date: Saturday 24th October
⏰ Time: Clothing drop-off opens at 9.30am for a 10am start. After Loraine's presentation you'll be free to swap until 1pm.
🚩 Location: Solaris Cancer Care Op Shop
💰 Cost: $5.00 + booking fee

The Great Global Mend is back for 2026! 🪡

Organised by Care to Rewear and FabPatch.au, this nationwide event will bring people together to extend the life of their clothing and textiles by mending them at the exact same time - 11am on Saturday 7 November.

Get involved to bring your much-loved item back to life and help reduce Australia's textile waste - no sewing experience needed!

The WMRC will be joining the movement with events at two local venues. Stay tuned for details. 🕵️‍♀️

Our next Recycling Centre tour is coming up! If you've ever wondered what happens to the waste in your bins once it leaves your verge, this is your chance to find out. We'll also explore the past and future of waste disposal in Perth, what to do with hazardous waste items, and how your cardboard, e-waste, metal and more can be recycled for free.

Tickets are $5 and morning tea is included. As the Recycling Centre is an active site, our tours are kept small - so you'll need to get in quick.

PS - if you can't make it on a weekday, keep an eye out for two Saturday tours coming in November to celebrate .

One of our most frequently asked questions - what do I do with plastic lids? 🤔

Plastic bottle lids are too small to be recycled via your yellow-lidded recycling bin - they'll fall through the machinery at the recycling facility. Instead, take them to the West Metro Recycling Centre or directly to CLAW Environmental in Welshpool to be made into new products. Alternatively, lids belonging to eligible containers can be recycled with them at your local Containers for Change refund point.

Bigger plastic lids (like those from a large peanut butter jar or yoghurt tub) are good to recycle in your yellow-lidded bin - just give them a quick rinse and make sure they're separate from their containers. 👌
