JCRSL MEMBERS ENJOY VETERANS’ DAY AT THE PERTH ROYAL SHOW! 🎡
Joondalup City RSL Sub-Branch members Nathan, Angela, Bee and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend Veterans’ Day at the Perth Royal Show, thanks to a very kind invitation from Anne Stroud, President of the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia.
It was a fantastic day filled with entertainment, excitement and great company, as we enjoyed the many events taking place in the main arena.
Highlights included performances by the Army Band, impressive sheep herding demonstrations and thrilling motorcycle stunt jumps.
However, one of the most spectacular moments of the day was watching David “The Bullet” Smith, the Human Cannonball, being launched from a cannon — certainly an incredible sight and something we won't forget in a hurry!
It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the Show, share some laughs and experience the camaraderie that makes our veteran community so special.
We had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Perth WWII veteran Jack Le Cras OAM.
Jack has just celebrated his 100th birthday, marking a century of extraordinary military service, community involvement and dedication to helping others.
On 2 September 1945, just one day after his 19th birthday, Jack stood aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, witnessing Japan's formal surrender and the official end of the Second World War.
As one of only a handful of Australians to witness this historic occasion, Jack holds a special place in our nation's military history.
Jack's dedication to serving others continued long after the war. He has served nearly 50 years with the Lions Club of Whitford and held past presidency roles with the Wanneroo RSL Sub-Branch and the Navy Association of WA.
In recognition of his outstanding service and contribution to the community, Jack was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
On behalf of the Joondalup City RSL Sub-Branch, I extend our warmest congratulations to Jack on reaching this magnificent milestone.
Your lifetime of service, leadership and commitment to veterans and the wider community is truly inspirational.
🎂 Happy 100th Birthday, Jack! Thank you for your extraordinary service to Australia.
