To further support demersal scalefish recovery and sustainability, new bag and size limits for recreational demersal fishing apply from 1 June.

Boat-based recreational fishing for demersal species remains closed in the West Coast bioregion (Kalbarri to Augusta) - re-opening as an exclusive rec fishing zone in Spring next year.

Over $23k in fines have been issued to fishers in Bunbury and Mandurah for taking undersize blue swimmer crabs and exceeding the daily bag limits.

Measure and count your catch immediately – once a crab is in your catch bag, esky or tub, it is considered your catch πŸ“

Jagging fish is illegal 🐟πŸͺπŸš«

Fisheries Officers have recently seen an increase in the use of treble hooks to jag mullet. Anyone caught engaging in this activity may have their fishing gear and catch confiscated, and fines may be issued.

If you know anyone who intentionally jags fish, please talk to them about the importance of sustainable fishing practices.

Help keep pest fish out of our waterways 🐟

If you catch a pest fish like redfin perch, carp or goldfish, don’t return it to the water.

New research shows too many redfin are being released and that’s bad news for our native fish and the South West marron fishery, which redfin actively prey on.

Starting tomorrow, abalone fishing between Busselton Jetty and the South Australian border will close, reopening on 1 October πŸ¦ͺ

Thank you to all the abalone fishers who have been sticking to the greenlip abalone closure from Busselton Jetty to Shoal Cape, as this continues to give them a break and allow stocks to recover.
