❗️UPDATE ON THE UPDATE ❗️
We received Shire approval for the shade sails this morning. Hopefully we can have them installed next week. 🙌

Shade Sail Update 📢

You have all been very patient in regard to our shed/shade sails/toy upgrades etc and we like to be as transparent as possible, so here is a little update.

Part of our agreement with the hire of the new premises included the addition of a shed for storage and shade sails to cover the majority of the yard. We’ve been working behind the scenes on both projects but getting quotes, contracts, and approvals takes time. We’d like to assure our members that shade sails are coming and we hope that we’ll have them installed soon. Summer is on the way and we know how important sun safety is for both adults and our little people who love their outdoor play.
The application was submitted to the Shire of Murray in September and we are yet to hear back; however, we are fairly confident it will receive approval (🤞). The shade sails will match the ones already present at the daycare centre next door and should compliment the building nicely. As far as we know, the company for installation has everything ready to go as soon as the green light is given.

So please, rest assured that we had already considered the loss of the trees/shade sails at Forrest St and had planned for shade sails many months ago. All we need now is the final approval and we’ll have a safe, shaded yard for our babies. We have all our fingers and toes crossed in hopes that we get approval ASAP as we know the weather is be rapidly warming up. ☀️
For now, and even after, we strongly encourage you to bring hats and sunscreen for outdoor play during the session. 👒

🥜 Allergy Policy 🥚

For those who need a reminder or are looking at attending playgroup this term, here is a little outline of our allergy policy. At the start of the year we did the full explanation on why we have such a strict policy for for sanity’s sake we’ll shorten it this time 😆

Bottom line: We have children who are allergic to traces of dairy, eggs, and nuts. Therefore, families are not permitted to bring dairy, eggs, or nuts to playgroup.

We know it is tricky to cater to some children when they are particular about what foods they’ll eat but it is far tricker to be a parent of an allergy-child in spaces such as playgroup. There is risk of butter smears on toys or egg-infused cake crumbs in the sensory tray without this policy, and that could put children at risk. As a community we need to help keep all children safe and avoiding these products is a simple way to do so.

Don’t fear though! There are so many good options out there that still adhere to the policy. Fruits and veggies are always safe, and we’ve popped some good ‘grab and go’ package options on the post here for you too 😊

As we prepare for the term to start, we’d like to offer this reminder. You are most welcome to make yourself comfortable on the couch or grab a chair from the stack to take a load off your feet; however, please always be aware of your child and ensure they are interacting positively and safely 😊

We like to talk about our playgroup being ‘a village’ and we don’t say it just to sound nice and cozy. We say it because we are a group of families who want to build a support system with each other and raise our babies together. Playgroup can certainly just be a Monday morning play session at the ALC if that’s all you want to get out of it - and we want to be clear that we totally support that and can be that playgroup for you!

But we also want to be a playgroup that extends past weekly sessions. We want to have a group that feels like a big extended family catch up every time we meet. Today was an example of our little village.
We had an open invite to a waterside picnic. Some people came earlier and others came late due to nap time, and no one minded. A few had to cancel last minute, but we understand. Someone spent half the morning giving each child a ride on the paddle board. Kids picked from each other’s lunch boxes because someone else’s food is always better. We had a grandparent who became everyone’s Nanny for the morning. Sun screen was passed around because it’s hard to remember to pack everything. We watched each other’s kids in the water and would warn them if they went too far. We help load each other’s cars and kids at the end. We sent photos of kids asleep in the car on the way home and shared photos of cute moments.
And around 4pm this afternoon we will undoubtably send messages about how our kids are overtired from a busy day and how bedtime can’t come soon enough.

Casual. Relaxed. Friendly. ☀️ 💛

Kids love coming to playgroup to explore new and special toys, and we know how important engaging play is for them. Luckily, you can create that same sort of engaging play at home with the help of Murray Toy Library! Borrow a range of toys and swap them out as often as you like, so you can enjoy that cuppa in peace while your little people create, imagine, and build.

Check out their page for updates on when they reopen, membership types, and their range for toys! 🧸
