On Tuesday, the year 9 girls attended the annual “Girl’s in Trades” expo held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
Funded by the Victorian Government, the purpose of the expo was to give girls the opportunity to find out about all the different opportunities available to them in non-traditional industries.
The girls had a great day; they could fly a plane via Virtual Reality, build a stool in the carpentry section, re-plant seedlings in the gardening section, do metalwork, electrical wiring, plumbing, and a host of tech-based careers including animation and game development.

Recently we learned about how to make shapes using rubber band in our Shapes unit for Numeracy. We created some shapes and patterns.
In our IDS lesson about History, we invited Ms Clayton, our Principal to look at our posters and to share some stories about toys from the past. She happily brought her doll Rosemary, to our class. We were so excited to see a doll from the past. It was very different from toys in the present.

3F is learning about their local communities and exploring different groups of their communities. We are making a class book about "I'm Australian too" after reading the book written by Mem Fox. 3F is enjoying learning about different cultures from their classmates and having fun making our own class book as a reminder to ourselves that although we are from different cultural backgrounds, we still belong to one big community, Australia.

The Featherbrook College Award is an award that was introduced during the college’s inaugural year of 2017. The award was designed to recognise students who consistently demonstrate the school’s values of High Expectations, Respect, being Safe and Collaboration.
Each month, 2 students are recognised through this coveted award which is determined by teaching teams who collectively select the recipients. The award is presented to the students at the whole school assembly each month. Along with the award certificate, students receive a book voucher provided by the award sponsor Century 21 Point Cook.
Congratulations to the May Featherbrook College Award recipients Rayelle & Megan as you exemplify our college values and demonstrate excellence in all that you do 🤩

The grade 5's have been honing their improvisational skills this term in Drama. Here we see students using a scarf as anything but. Crafting a short, coherent skit, students use a scarf in place of an object central to the scene.

In Humanities this term, we are currently learning about the seven concepts and skills of Geography. As part of their learning, students engaged in a township planning task which involved them creating a township to cater to the current residents of Point Cook based on the most recent survey of our suburb. Students then presented their township explaining how their township would benefit the residents of Point Cook. Attached are some photos of the topographic map created of their township.

The last two weeks have been busy, exciting, and full of creativity at The Y! 💛
We were thrilled to receive some new furniture at the service, giving our spaces a fresh new feel for the children to enjoy. We also completed our Assessment & Rating visit with the Department of Education, which we felt went really well. We’re looking forward to receiving the report and reflecting on all feedback as we continue to grow and improve. A huge thank you to our amazing team — we are incredibly proud of them each and every day! 🌟
We also announced the lucky winner of our Mother’s Day prize package, which the children were very excited about! 🎁
Across the two weeks, children enjoyed a range of engaging activities including STEAM texture collages, Cinco de Mayo paper flower crafts, and creating their own screen-free games, which became a huge hit around the service! 😄
For World Laughter Day, children explored humour through comedy and cartoon creations, and we also spent time making thoughtful Mother’s Day crafts.
Week 19 continued with creative drawing and design activities, including portraits and patterns, as well as learning about wildlife and conservation through our Endangered Species activities. Children created habitat dioramas, played the exciting Wolf’s Den Game, and matched animal footprints to different species. 🐾
We also celebrated World Migratory Bird Day, designing and building bird feeders and shelters from recycled materials while learning how to support local wildlife. 🐦♻️
It’s been wonderful seeing the children collaborate, create, laugh, and learn together over these past two weeks at The Y! ✨

Year 9A and 9B have been working on their Shadow Puppet scripts and plays during the first 6 weeks of Term 2. We invited three year 1 classes to watch the performances and to provide an engaged and captivated audience.
Students were required to write an original script or use an existing script and create their own puppets and props.
The puppetry was both masterful and highly entertaining! Well done Year 9’s!
