I haven't experienced this but i'm sure there are some of our readers who have.....

Every sailor thinks it’s easy… right up until it isn’t.

Calm mornings with coffee in hand have a way of convincing you the sea is gentle. Then the wind builds, the rail dips, and suddenly you’re trimming sails with a little more humility. And when the squalls roll through? That’s where the real lessons live. Seamanship isn’t learned in flat water — it’s earned when your hands are shaking just a little and you do it anyway.

But here’s the thing: whether the day gave you peace, skill, or a story you’ll retell at the dock for the next ten years… it was worth it. It’s always worth it.

What's a knot board? you may ask. This is a fancy one that many a sailor made to while away any spare time they had. There are at least 10 knots every sailor should know and they all have different uses. https://www.maritimemuseum.co.nz/collections/10-essential-knots-every-sailor-should-know Enrol in the FALIE Pirate School at Parks Library this Saturday 10.30am for knot tying workshop, part one of a series of maritime education sessions.
