METRO PADDLE HIGHLIGHTS 17/10/26 😎

Not quite sharks, but here’s some moments from a superb Saturday afternoon field exploration as our gulf enters a new post algal era.

What have you noticed about our metro waters in comparison to this time last year? It’s hard to say we’re in the clear yet after such a catastrophic marine disaster. All your updates from different sites around algal bloom impacted locations are incredibly important!

🚨DEVELOPING: WHITE SHARKS RETURNING TO UPPER ST VINCENT GULF 🦈🦈

Shark Watch SA has received 4x seperate reports in the past 48 hours concerning White Shark sightings in Upper SVG between and over the past few weeks.

This clip was sent in from fisher, Peter, who added the following statement to his report: “I was out off of Ardrossan/Tiddy Widdy about 6km from shore approx 8 am trying to get some Whiting. I just chucked back an undersized Whiting and was washing the slime off my hands and the shark appeared from no where. I’ve seen plenty of sharks before but this one seemed, I wouldn’t say more aggressive but more curious than others. He stayed in the vicinity of the boat for an hour. Approx 2 /2.5 m max juvenile pointer. I have another spot nearby in a bit deeper water. There is a much larger shark there and has been in the area for months, probably longer. . I have only managed to snap a picture of that one. That shark has taken fish from my line. Maybe 4m in length.”

Another brief sighting of a White Shark near Bald Hill Beach was shared by a third-party source. Fascinating to hear about several top-order predators travelling all the way up this far so soon after the algal bloom made these waters virtually inhabitable for them only a year ago.

If you happen to be out on the water in SA and come across “Bruce”, please do get in touch with us as we rapidly build the states largest shark sighting repository!

🚨BREAKING: PROMISING DEVELOPMENTS FOR WAITPINGA & PARSONS SURFERS!

Shark Watch SA has gained approval to install 4x Bite Aid - Community SBK shark bite trauma kits at two popular surfing beaches in Newland Head Conservation Park.

It comes after a surfer had a near miss with a White Shark on Friday evening which further exacerbated ongoing calls to improve shark bite mitigation within state national parks as strict prohibitions remain on drones in national park zones.

Shark Watch will donate two of the kits valued at $195 each and is calling on the community and local surf clubs to help fund the remaining kits. The first two kits are scheduled to be installed within a matter of weeks and we will keep you posted on the latest developments and installation points. The kits will also feature a QR coded SWSA sticker to allow surfers to easily report shark sightings.

Each kit contains:

1. An incident management card.
2. An SOF Tourniquet.
3. 2x Conforming Bandages.
4. 2x Large Dressings.
5. An emergency blanket.
6. Emergency whistle.
7. A pair of Nitrile Gloves.
8. Parts bag.

At least 5 kits have already been installed in South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula along with 320 Australia wide with locations displayed on the communitysbk.com.au website.

⚠️9/10/26 17:40 3.5m WHITE SHARK ALERT AT

A surfer has escaped the ominous presence of a curious White Shark while surfing at Waitpinga Point this evening. Within 20 minutes prior to dialing SWSA, surfer, Trevor, was sitting on his board within the breakers when a large White Shark came barrelling in towards him before aborting the potential predation at the last moment right next to him.

📣This comes only days after Shark Watch SA reached out to DEW requesting approval to have a shark bite kit installed at the beach after months without a formal response.

DID DUSTY JUST GET RE-TAGGED IN SYDNEY?!?! 🤯

This epic adventure just gets even more diabolical! If this was the same shark that NSW SharkSmart tagged, then this 3m sub-adult White Shark which was tagged in SA by the Southern Shark Ecology Group at the start of the year, is not only racking up the kilometres, but also the souvenirs and social media check-ins! 😂

According to the latest detections on the Biopixel Oceans Foundation tracker, the shark made two detections close to shore off on ’s North Coast before B-lining it away from shore, back out into the Tasman Sea.

After a quick check of the NSW SharkSmart app, we can see that a shark of the same species and length was tagged 🏷️ in the same region where Dusty was earlier in the morning. Providing its the same shark, Dusty would officially be Australia’s most followed shark on digital media being tracked with the Bio Pixel Argos-sattelite tracker as well as the NSW Shark Smart app via their Smart Drumline program. I guess the only way to find out is if the Shark Smart team responsible for tagging the shark are contacted and an ID can be matched. The most obvious visual reference would be an external satellite tag that’s already attached to her dorsal fin.

📡 The Biopixel Oceans Foundation tracker updates once a day and registers their tagged sharks anywhere in the world via Argos satellite detections while the NSW SharkSmart tracker can update at any time of the day when one of their own tagged sharks comes within a certain proximity of the receiver stations.
