Big wheels, big numbers and a big job keeping the Pilbara moving! ๐Ÿš›

Around 500 road trains travel through the Utah precinct each day, carrying commodities from Pilbara mines to global export markets. ๐ŸŒ

Following the recent $32 million Utah Road upgrade, the next improvement is underway. Approximately two kilometres of road within the facility will be rebuilt with a high-durability concrete surface designed to strengthen critical port infrastructure. ๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ

Together, these upgrades are helping one of the Pilbaraโ€™s busiest freight corridors stay safer, stronger and ready to support for the long haul ๐Ÿš›

โœ… Another major milestone for the Dampier Bulk Handling Facility project

The final deck pour for the Dampier Bulk Handling Facility (DBHF) project was completed late last month, marking a significant step forward in construction of the new structure.

Approximately 2,700m3 of concrete was used for the deck pours โ€“ the equivalent of over 400 concrete trucks ๐Ÿšš

This achievement represents months of planning, coordination and construction effort by teams working both on and off site.

With the deck completed, the team can now move to the final stages of completing the DBHF. Once complete, the DBHF will facilitate the diversification of trade through the Port of Dampier by enabling the export of urea and increasing the trade of general cargo.

Have you noticed the bright green recycling facility in Port Hedland? โ™ป๏ธ๐Ÿ’š

Through Pilbara Ports Donation Program, a decommissioned shipping container has been donated to Care For Hedland Environmental Association and transformed into a permanent Containers for Change Drop & Go facility.

The new facility makes container recycling easier for people to return their containers and help reduce waste. ๐Ÿƒ

One retired asset, a fresh new purpose and lasting social benefits for the Port Hedland community, thatโ€™s a milestone worth celebrating! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Big smiles and plenty of port-side fun! โš“๐ŸŽ‰

Last weekend, families took over the Port of Port Hedland for the 2026 Port Hedland Family Day.

From harbour tours and a pirate visit ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ to helicopter displays ๐Ÿš and hands-on crane activities ๐Ÿ—๏ธ, there was plenty for little ones to explore!

A highlight of the day was seeing families connect, learn more about the portโ€™s important work and, for many children, visit their parentsโ€™ workplace for the first time.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to the many people who generously gave their time and energy behind the scenes to make the day such a success. ๐Ÿ™Œ

โš“ The strength of our maritime industry lies in its commitment to safety.

As the maritime industry navigates an increasingly complex operating environment, World Maritime Day is an opportunity to recognise the people, partnerships, systems, and most importantly seafarers that help keep our oceans safe and global trade moving. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿšข

This year's theme, 'From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence', highlights the importance of turning standards and commitments into everyday actions that strengthen safety across the sector.

From seafarers and marine pilots to harbour masters, port operators and regulators, safe shipping relies on collaboration at every level. ๐Ÿค At Pilbara Ports, we're proud to play our part in connecting the Pilbara to the world through the safe and efficient movement of trade.

Today, we recognise the people across the maritime industry whose dedication, expertise and commitment make it all possible.

A strong emergency response starts long before an incident occurs ๐Ÿšจโš“

Over recent weeks, Pilbara Ports and industry partners put their emergency response capabilities to the test through a series of realistic exercises at the Port of Port Hedland.

From a simulated oil spill in the harbour to a marine search and rescue operation, teams worked together to assess situations, make critical decisions, deploy equipment and coordinate responses under pressure.

These exercises provided an important opportunity to strengthen partnerships, test emergency procedures and ensure that the people and resources that protect our port remain ready to respond when it matters most.

The successful exercises demonstrated strong collaboration, effective decision making and the capability of teams and services that may be called upon during a real incident.

Supporting the next generation of local JaBaT dancers ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ•บ

Through our Community Grants program, Pilbara Ports provided a $5,000 grant to JaBaT Dance to support the purchase of new acro dance equipment, including roll-out tumbling mats and replacement costume racks.

The new equipment will help improve safety, support growing enrolments in the Acro program and strengthen the organisationโ€™s ability to deliver high-quality dance experiences for more than 100 local children and young people.

Weโ€™re proud to support local initiatives of all sizes through our Community Grants program, helping create opportunities and lasting impact for communities across the Pilbara.

Delivering a new program, expanding an existing initiative or bringing people together through a community event? The next rounds of the Community Grants Program are:
Round 2: Opens 12 October and closes 12 November 2026
Round 3: Opens 5 February and closes 5 March 2027
Round 4: Opens 20 April and closes 20 May 2027

Exciting upgrades are taking shape at the Port of Ashburton ๐Ÿšข๐Ÿ‘ท

From essential water and fire infrastructure to smarter coastal management, Pilbara Ports is progressing upgrades that will strengthen operational resilience and maintain safe, sustainable port operations. Upgrades include a new permanent water and fire system at Ashburton Cargo Wharf, which is set to deliver a sustainable potable water supply and compliant fire water system by January 2027. The project includes a seawater desalination plant, expanded firefighting network and new fire water tank. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ง

Planning is also progressing for sand bypassing expected in early 2027, which will help manage sediment build-up while supporting natural coastal processes.
Together, these projects reflect Pilbara Ports ongoing commitment to safe, sustainable and efficient port infrastructure that supports Western Australiaโ€™s resource sector and regional economy. ๐Ÿค

From rescue to recognition ๐Ÿšจโš“

Pilbara Ports was proudly represented at the WA Fire and Emergency Services Awards 2026, where the Dampier Marine Rescue team received the Marine Rescue Team Achievement Award for their extraordinary rescue off the Pilbara coast in April 2025.

After a 12m sailing catamaran grounded on a reef and began sinking, crews worked through challenging midnight conditions to bring four people and a dog safely back to shore. From failed tow attempts to scaling Legendre Island with rescue lines and recovery gear, the team showed incredible courage, adaptability and teamwork when it mattered most. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ‘

A special congratulations to the Dampier Marine Rescue team and our own Deputy Harbour Master Marine West, Buddika Sapukotana, who was part of the award-winning crew.

An incredible achievement and a powerful reminder of the bravery behind the marine rescue community. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿš€ Pilbara Ports achieved a throughput of 65.9 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2026!

This includes:
๐Ÿ”น 62.1 Mt iron ore exports
๐Ÿ”น 295,000 tonnes of imports
๐Ÿ”น 2.4 Mt of LNG exports

Fun fact: In August, our ports moved 62.1 million tonnes of iron ore โ€“ that is equivalent to the load carried by around 1,775 fully loaded Pilbara iron ore trains โ€” enough trains to stretch from Port Hedland to Perth and back again!
