🔥 WAFES Conference & Awards 2026! 🔥

A few weeks back, some of our Port Hedland VFRS members, alongside representatives from South VFRS, Hedland BFB and SES, travelled to Perth for the annual WA Fire and Emergency Services (WAFES) Conference and Awards.

It was a fantastic opportunity to network with emergency service members from across the state, share knowledge and learn about the latest firefighting techniques and practices. 🚒

The conference offered a wide range of valuable training sessions and learning opportunities, including tours of the DFES Communications Centre, Bureau of Meteorology weather information, vessel fires, interstate bushfire deployments and road crash rescue. We also heard from inspirational speaker Jessica Watson OAM and learnt more about the incredible work happening across WA emergency services.

The weekend was made even more special with Ruth being named a finalist in the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service Individual Achievement Award at the 2026 WAFES Awards. 🎉

Ruth was recognised for her dedication to brigade training, community engagement and her efforts to collect and preserve the history of Port Hedland VFRS.

We are incredibly proud of Ruth and the passion and commitment she continues to show to our brigade and our community. ❤️💛

Congratulations, Ruth! We’re so proud to have you representing Port Hedland VFRS. 🔥🚒

🚒 Last Tuesday our volunteer, along with a few South Hedland crew took part in a Breathing Apparatus (BA) refresher training session, reinforcing the skills and procedures required to safely operate in smoke-filled rooms and hazardous environments.

Regular BA training is essential to ensure our firefighters remain confident and competent when responding to incidents where respiratory protection is required. The session focused on equipment checks, donning and doffing procedures, communication, teamwork, and safe operational practices.

A big thank you to all members who attended and continue to dedicate their time to maintaining these critical skills. Ongoing training helps ensure we are always ready to respond when our community needs us most.

Well done, everyone!

Interested in volunteering or curious about what is involved? Come down to Port Hedland station on a Tuesday night to check out what the crew gets up to and how you can volunteer with us! 🚒

🚒 ❤️ Thank you, Blackwood’s Trade Show! ❤️🚒

The Port Hedland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service would like to extend a huge thank you to the Blackwoods Trade Show for generously donating the proceeds from their raffle ticket sales to our brigade.

We would also like to acknowledge the incredible generosity of one of the raffle winners, who kindly donated their chest freezer prize back to our brigade. What an amazing gesture of community spirit!

In addition, we were gifted 6 cartons of energy drink zooper doopers and a carton of energy drink sachets, which will be a welcomed addition to help keep our volunteers refreshed during training, incidents, and community events.

The support we receive from local businesses and community members makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated by all of our volunteers.

Thank you for backing your local firefighters and helping us continue to serve the Port Hedland community🔥🚒

ANZAC Day 2026

The Port Hedland Fire and Rescue Service were honoured to attend the local ANZAC Day Service alongside South Hedland Volunteer Fire & Rescue and our community.

This was an opportunity to come together, reflect, and pay our respects to those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

We are incredibly proud of the turn out to yesterday’s service, and the respect shown throughout the service. It was a powerful reminder of the mateship and support that exists within our town.

Lest We Forget.
