LOCAL MANUFACTURER HIGHLIGHT: THOMPSON BRUSHES 🔨
Last week, I had the privilege of being able to show off some of our local manufacturers to Senator Matthew Canavan. Because here on the Mid North Coast, we absolutely punch above our weight when it comes to Australian made and owned!

And the team at Thompson Brushes didn't disappoint. Listening to General Manager Damien Mani discuss their range of products and the industries they service was inspiring. Not only is Damien clearly passionately proud of what his team creates, he's defiantly confident when it comes to their quality. And for good reason. The level of testing that each new product undergoes to ensure it outlasts and outplays the overseas competition is phenomenal.

Thank you to Damien and the entire Thompson Brushes crew for the chat, the tour and the advice on how governments at all levels can help companies like theirs to grow. We're bringing that common sense back to Canberra.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!

INTRODUCING THE ‘CASH IS KING’ BILL 2026
Cash is king, and under the Coalition we won’t see it overthrown.

Great to join Leader of the Nationals Senator Matthew Canavan and Shadow Assistant Treasurer Kevin Hogan MP at a press conference today to introduce a Bill that will protect cash now and into the future while providing safe guards for small businesses that are unable to accept it.

Currently, supermarkets and petrol stations are covered under the government’s cash mandate and must accept it, but other essential things like medicines and clothing are exempt.

For many older Australians and regional and rural residents, this is an issue.

Our Bill will expand the mandate to all businesses with a turnover of over $10 million.

This is a sensible expansion that protects cash and those Australians who prefer to use it.

SMALL BUSINESS CHAT: PATTERSON GLASS WORKS
I brought Senator Matthew Canavan along for a chat with Kempsey business owner Anthony Patterson from Patterson Glass Works Pty Ltd this week, so that Matt could hear first-hand how our local businesses are being effected by the current market and supply chain conditions.

After 32 years in business, Anthony has seen our local manufacturing capabilities slowly die off, most recently as a result of Chinese imports of aluminium and glass window and door frames into Australia at prices that were below cost, otherwise known as 'dumping'. These practices are designed to kill local market competitors off over time. Thankfully, the Australian Trade Remedies Commission has stepped in, and from October 15, importers must provide financial guarantees of up to 73.3 per cent of the product value when their goods enter the country.

Thanks for the chat, the advice and the ideas shared, Anthony. Every discussion helps us bring some common sense back to Canberra!

SUPPORTING LOCAL MANUFACTURERS: SABLE ENGINEERING
Great to have Senator Matthew Canavan here on the Mid North Coast this week and visiting local businesses that not only employ and train our community, but proudly represent 'Australian Made'.

While in Macksville, we stopped in to see the hard working team at Sable Engineering & Metaland Pty Ltd and had a chat with owners Chris & Shelley about the compounding pressures that local manufacturers are currently experiencing and their ideas on how governments at all levels can assist them to survive and grow.

The fact is, more businesses like Sable Engineering are closing up shop with each passing month, which is devastating not just for the individual businesses but for our sovereignty. I don't think there is anyone in Australia who doesn't want to see more Aussie made products in this country!

Thank you to Chris and Shelley for having us and for providing insight and perspective into how we can improve manufacturing capabilities in this country. We will be taking your common sense thoughts back to Canberra!

THANK YOU, COFFS HARBOUR!
With Senator Matthew Canavan in town, it was the perfect excuse to gather locals interested in hearing about the direction we are taking as a party and answer a few of their burning questions.

Great to be able to hear the issues that are top of mind for so many in our region and respond with the plans we have to address them.

Thank you to everyone who attended for your input. We really appreciate it.

Looking forward to continuing the events and visits as we travel through to Port Macquarie.

SHORELINE FREIGHTERS: HOMEGROWN SUCCESS STORY
Great to be able to meet the team at Shoreline Freighters head office in Coffs Harbour today with Senator Matthew Canavan to hear their impressive growth story and chat about a few of the issues affecting them and their industry.

Talking to Kirpal, Jared and Michael today was genuinely inspiring. Great to see a business willing to pivot, evolve and meet the unique demands of our regional communities. Over the past 12 years they have expanded from 4 trucks to over 200 specialised vehicles ready to handle the freight and delivery needs of a wide variety of clientele.

Shoreline now employs over 300 locals up and down the Mid North Coast out of their 5 depots from Taree to Grafton. And they're not resting on their laurels, they have their eyes on the prize of further growth.

A big 'thank you' to the team for having us today and for sharing your ideas on how governments at all levels could better assist local Aussie businesses like yours. We need more of them!

GETTING BEHIND COFFS BANANAS
Great to have Senator Matthew Canavan here in Coffs Harbour at The Big Banana Fun Park today to promote our local banana industry and help inform Australians of the threats being posed from the Phillipines that are currently under Labor consideration.

It’s devastating enough to have a lack of support for Coffs Coast bananas from a large commercial brand like Coles, but an existential threat not just for our local farmers but the entire Australian industry is looming.

A potential flood of bananas from the Philippines is under Labor consideration that could wipe our local harvests out of competitive contention and risk diseases entering local farms. For Labor to even be considering this is lunacy and directly attacks Australian farmers’ ability to produce our food and fibre. Why risk our sovereignty? We do not have a shortage of bananas in this country. We do not need to import them for the sake of misguided ‘diplomacy’.

Thank you to Matt and local banana grower Paul Shoker for helping to get the word out today. Let’s protect Australian owned and Australian grown!

I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the attack on my parliamentary colleague, Helen Haines MP.

My thoughts are with Helen, her family, friends and staff during what must be an incredibly distressing time.

There is absolutely no place for violence, intimidation or threats against anyone in our community, regardless of political belief or position.

Every Australian deserves to feel safe, including those who put themselves forward to serve their communities.

We cannot accept horrific actions like this in a free and democratic society. They have no place in Australia.

SATURDAY SMALL BUSINESS SHOUT OUT: MOOREBEER BREWING 🍻🍺
I popped in to visit local brewer Mark Connors at Moore B**r recently to congratulate him and the team on the recent award wins at the 2026 Sydney Royal B**r & C***r Show.

Of the 7 beers entered, all 7 came home with a prize!
🥇4 Gold
🥈2 Silver
🥉1 Bronze

And best of all a Champions Sash to go along with the Gold for their Hoppy Mid🏆. An amazing haul for the first time entrants and some well deserved recognition for Mark who officially took over full ownership of the brewery at the end of last year.

Onya, Big Moz. Looking forward to spending another sunny afternoon at Moorebeer again soon!

PORT MACQUARIE ROTARY RECEIVE BIO BLITZ BOOST🐦🌱🐟
Great to catch up with the passionate team at Rotary Club of Port Macquarie last week to congratulate them on their successful grant application under the Federal Volunteer Grant program.

The group secured $4,695 in order to continue their successful annual Bio Blitz program. For those unfamiliar with the initiative, Bio Blitz brings together visiting scientists and experts with students and community members from across the broader Port Macquarie region to learn about and celebrate our local flora and fauna.

The funds will go towards the travel expenses of the invited scientific teams to help attract the very best for this important community managed event.

A huge 'congratulations and thank you' to the dedicated team at the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie. The efforts of every one of your volunteers continue to support and enrich our community. We are lucky to have you.
