Queanbeyan Museum The Queanbeyan Historical Museum is located at 10 Farrer Place Queanbeyan. The museum is open Saturday and Sunday afternoons 1-4pm. Take the journey with us.

The museum will not be open over the Easter and Christmas holidays. The Museum has a strong focus on the history of Queanbeyan and surrounding district, with a broad collection of over 5,000 items that includes furniture, textiles, technological objects, costumes, pictures, maps, objects, and photographs. There is currently an active programme of changing exhibitions with regular opening hours and regular events. Explore

The Museum’s 10 galleries and extensive outdoor areas allow visitors to explore topics like:

The Indigenous people before Europeans arrived

How did Queanbeyan develop? How did we enjoy ourselves in early Queanbeyan? Bushrangers and Larrikins

Blacksmith shop and laundry

See an original Both Iron Lung used in Queanbeyan during the 1950s poliomyelitis epidemic;

The Museum was opened by the Queanbeyan & District Historical Museum Society Inc. in 1969. It is currently operated by the Society in partnership with the Queanbeyan-Paleranf Regional Council. QDHMS Inc. The Society meets regularly and publishes an historical journal, Quinbean. Contact

Excellent volunteer turn out to tour the Heritage Library with Mel Duncan, hoping for a positive partnership moving forward. Useful recording and scanning equipment . Good to see the Ratebooks and other resources useful for referring visitors to answer historical questions. Also good social catchup for volunteers over lunch. Let us know if you would like to become a volunteer with us, and join our wonderful group

Museum Closure Notice
The Museum will be closed from Sunday 27 September and will reopen on Saturday 17 October 2026.
The closure is necessary to allow roadworks to be carried out at the intersection of Monaro Street and Lowe Street. During this time, traffic in the area will be affected, with local traffic only permitted.
We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to welcoming you back when the Museum reopens.

Spring has certainly sprung around our historic houses and gardens, why not come and drop into the Museum this weekend? Unfortunately the road works will involve the closing of the Lowe Street intersection at Farrer place, making access difficult to the museum for the school holidays at the end of the month. however we want to continue to receive your stories and feedback . Looking forward to see and hear from you soon
