SMOKE WARNING: Planned Controlled Burn Ravenshoe
Location- The Old Golf Course Corner of Moffat and Kennedy Hwy Date- 18/09/2026
Time- 3pm
Residents are advised that a planned controlled burn will take place at the old golf course on the corner of Moffat St and the Kennedy Hwy in Ravenshoe on Friday the 18th of September, commencing at approximately 3pm, weather permitted
Smoke from this burn is expected to affect a large area of the Ravenshoe township, with the most significant smoke impacts likely around Asham Street, Ravenshoe. Smoky conditions are expected to continue through into Saturday.
This planned burn is being undertaken to reduce the very high fuel load in this area, to protect structures along the creek on Asham Street, as well as nearby homes off Moffat Street, Roger Street and Ethel Street.
Residents in smoke-affected areas are advised to close windows and doors while smoky conditions are present. People with health conditions, particularly those sensitive to smoke, should consider staying with friends or family outside the affected area until conditions improve. Residents should also keep any required medication nearby and avoid unnecessary exposure to smoke where possible
Residents with structures close to the burn area are encouraged to clean gutters and remove any flammable materials from around yards, fences, sheds and other structures
Due to current moisture levels and green conditions within the burn area, the fire is expected to burn slowly and possibly produce high volumes of smoke.
We thank the community for its understanding and cooperation while this controlled burn is carried out to help improve community safety.
For further information or to raise any concerns, please contact the Ravenshoe Queensland Fire Department- 0467821503

Smoke Alert

Planned burn at Ravenshoe Forest Reserve 1

29 July 2025

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) conducts planned burns around the State to reduce the risk and intensity of bushfires and support a healthy environment.

QPWS will conduct a planned burn in Ravenshoe Forest Reserve 1 on from 29 July to 1 August 2025, weather permitting. As a result of the planned burn, smoke may be seen in the nearby areas.

If visiting Ravenshoe Forest Reserve 1, observe all signs, barriers, and directions from QPWS Rangers and never enter closed areas. Avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area.

These burns aim to mitigate the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impacts on communities, infrastructure, parks, and forests.

They are also vital in promoting ecological health, biodiversity, and the conservation of species and habitats.

Planned burns are highly weather-dependent, generally requiring milder conditions and minimal wind.

These same weather conditions can also allow smoke to accumulate and linger until weather conditions change and winds assist in dispersing the smoke.

If smoke affects you:

Stay indoors and close windows and doors; and
Keep respiratory medication close by.

Live air quality data, and information on smoke and dust health actions, can be found on the Queensland Government’s website https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/management/monitoring/air

You can stay updated with local QPWS fire activities by visiting Park Alerts or by following Qld Park Alerts on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Public safety is the highest consideration in all QPWS fire management activities. To find out more visit the Fire Management webpage.

Air quality monitoring is a key government role. We provide information on air pollution, programs, investigations, reports and plans.
