Everyone please make sure that you fill this form in for 'Your Say' that MBRC have titled 'Suttons Beach Public Space'. I realise everyone would be making many phone calls to council, to state members and to Councillor Karl Wi******er. Take a look at point 2! Let's point out to council that there is already a very variable business been run at the current location! Why, council are you so determined to destroy this business that has been behind so many events that you have put on for the community.

And lastly back this up with an email to Anthony Martini - Deputy CEO and Director of Projects and Assets Services. Send this email too [email protected]

Council Meeting 2 Feb 2022 Suttons Beach Pavilion 02/02/2022

Today Wednesday 2nd February 2022 at approximately 1pm MBRC held a meeting that can be viewed via the Moreton Bay Regional Council YouTube channel. Where a motion / Item 12.1 was moved by Mayor Councillor Peter Flannery and was pasted by Councillor Karl Wi******er.

This motion / item recorded that:

1) That all current and future reports and photos of the pavilion
structures be made public;
2) Community engagement be brought forward to 11th February
2022;
3) That the MBRC commit to retain the rotunda at Suttons Beach
precinct in recognition of its iconic valve and that it is distinct for
the issues associated with the Pavilion buildings.

MBRC Item 12.1 - The Chronology Reports that the MBRC have so far are and dated:

1. FSA Consulting Engineers – dated February / June 2020
2. BE Collective – Structural Condition Audit Peer Review – dated
May 2020
3. Converge Heritage and Community – April 2020
4. GHD – August 2020 – Letter
5. Covey Associates Pty Ltd – December 2020
6. Ian MacDonald Architects – January 2022

MBRC Item 12.1 - Key issues:

1. Prolonged water ingress
2. Condition and age of concrete and structure items
3. Location and exposure.

One councilor, Councillor Mick Gillam had this to say,

“It’s not as through we (MBRC) are going to demolish it and leave nothing in it’s place. Just like when the council, former Redcliffe (City) Council did the jetty they knocked the old jetty down and rebuilt with a new jetty because the old one was just stuffed. The same with Woody Point it has been renewed so this really is just an on going process once something gets old and buggered it can’t be repaired anymore and it has just reached the time where it has to be demolished and something will get rebuilt in its place and it’s really up to the public now to get involved if they really care and make sure they get their throughs heard by council about what they want there”.

Dear Councillor Gillam,
The constituents/community of the Redcliffe and greater Moreton Bay area place you and fellow councilor’s as well as the CEO, Deputy CEO of the MBRC on notice that we feel you have failed us. We also feel that you have breached the legislated guidelines set out by LGA.

This is and has been clearly demonstrated by today General Business Item (GBI) with the Item 12.1 motion to release these reports for fellow constituents/community members to view the above chronology reports that have been commissioned at the ratepayer’s expense on behalf of the MBRC.

Councillor Gillam it is clear that the MBRC council had no intention to notify the constituents of the Moreton Bay area and in particular the Redcliffe area of the demolition of the Suttons Beach Pavilion. What is clear to the community is that the MBRC is up in arms because the current tenant / lease notified the community that they would no longer be able to trade from the current site located at the Suttons Beach Pavilion from the end of February 2022. Because MBRC notified the current tenant they would not be renewing there current lease.

Councillor Gillam in your statement today you made reference to, two structures been the Redcliffe and Woody Point Jetty’s both of these landmarks are in the Redcliffe area. Yes, both of these jetties were demolished but they were both replaced to resemble and be in a better condition and more structurally sound for future generations.

(To answer your question Councillor Gilliam as to the age of the Redcliffe Jetty, it was officially opened in 1999. At the same time that the Redcliffe Jetty was commissioned/handed over finishing touches were also been made to the Pavilion at Suttons Beach and well as another Function and Event Centre owned by the Redcliffe City Council which would now be owned by MBRC known as Sunset Blue. This to me now raises concerns about the structure and condition to Sunset Blue Function Centre since in was built around the same time and in a similar location to the Pavilion at Suttons Beach.)

With your comments today Councillor Gillam, and what was read by Mayor Peter Flannery today from Item 12.1 about the Pavilion at Suttons Beach the constituents of the Moreton Bay area are aware a believe that now we know that the MBRC intend to demolish the Pavilion the MBRC also has ‘NO’ intention of replacing the building to be in a similar art-deco style to be in a better condition and to be more structurally sound for future generations to enjoy, like what is currently experiences by the many patrons that visit the Pavilion.

There are many constituents/community members that use the current facilities of the Pavilion at Suttons Beach. There are also many elderly people that visit the Pavilion daily as this is there only form of an outing especially in these trying co-vid times. Do you MBRC really what to contribute to the extra mental health issues in these current times by taking away another enjoyable location that is enjoyed!

Please I encourage every single one of the MBRC Councillors, CEO’s, Directors, staff members go down to the Pavilion and see firsthand what this fantastic business, location does for our home and community.
