πŸ‰πŸ”₯ GRAND FINAL WEEKEND = BBQ TIME πŸ”₯ πŸ‰

Whether you’re barracking for the Dockers or Lions, there’s nothing better than getting the crew together, firing up the BBQ and enjoying a snag while watching the footy!

Before you light it up this weekend, take a couple of minutes to make sure your BBQ is safe:

πŸ”₯ Check hoses and connections for leaks
πŸ”₯ Check your gas bottle is in good condition
πŸ”₯ Clear rubbish, clutter and anything flammable from around the BBQ
πŸ”₯ Clean away grease and fat build-up before you start

And remember - never leave your BBQ unattended while cooking. When you’re finished, turn off the BBQ and gas, and once it’s cooled down, give it a good clean ready for next time.

A few minutes of checking can help keep your Grand Final celebrations on the safe side. πŸš’

πŸ”₯ GET FIRE READY - HAVE YOUR SAY! πŸ”₯

Our Get Fire Ready session is coming up at the Redesdale Show & Shine on the 1st November, 2026 - and we want to make sure we’re talking about the things that are actually useful to our local community.

So, what would you like to learn more about this fire season? πŸ€”

We’ve put together four topics we think could be useful, but you get to choose what we focus on!

πŸ“± How to use the VicEmergency app
πŸ”₯ Understanding Fire Danger Ratings & Warnings
🏑 Preparing your property for fire
πŸ“ Creating a Bushfire Plan for your household

Hit like against the topic that interests you in the comments!!

If there’s something else you’d like to know about, let us know! We’d love to hear what questions you have.

We’ll use your feedback to help shape our Get Fire Ready presentation.

πŸš’ A BIG WEEKEND FOR THE REDESDALE CFA CREW! πŸ‘πŸΌ

It’s been a big few days for our team, with plenty of training, learning and celebrating!

πŸ‘πŸΌ WELCOME GABE & JACK!

We’re excited to welcome our two newest recruits, who have successfully completed their GFF training and are now qualified CFA firefighters. Congratulations!

🫁 BA TRAINING

With the BA tank trailer on standby, members due to update their qualification suited up for 30 minutes of movement and breathing - all kitted up and ready to go!

πŸ”₯ EPPALOCK GROUP TRAINING DAY

To finish off the weekend, 11 of our members headed to Mosquito Creek Rural Fire Brigade for an Eppalock Group training day.

It was a fantastic day of practical training and teamwork, with:

πŸ“» Our Comms team learning how the LCF runs.
πŸ’§ Big Fill navigating multiple scenarios.
πŸš’ Tanker 2 forming part of the teams at each mock incident.

Plenty of scenarios, plenty of learnings and a great day out with our neighbouring brigades.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising and running the training day!

A big weekend for the team as we continue getting ready for the summer ahead πŸ’ͺ🏼

Well done to all our members for the time, effort and commitment!

🏑πŸ”₯ DO YOU HAVE A HOME FIRE ESCAPE PLAN? 🏑πŸ”₯

If a fire starts in your home, you may have very little time to get out safely. Having a plan - and practising it - can help everyone know exactly what to do.

A good Home Fire Escape Plan should include:

πŸ—ΊοΈ Map your home
Draw a simple floor plan showing every room, door, window and the location of your smoke alarms.

πŸšͺ Identify two ways out
Where possible, identify two escape routes from every room - such as a hallway door and an alternative safe window exit.

πŸ“ Choose a meeting place
Pick a safe outdoor location where everyone will meet, such as your letterbox or front footpath.

πŸƒ Practise your plan
Make sure everyone in your household knows the escape routes and meeting place. Practise regularly so you know what to do if an alarm sounds.

🚨 IF A FIRE STARTS

⬇️ Get down low and stay under the smoke.

βœ‹ Check doors for heat with the back of your hand before opening them.

πŸšͺ Close doors behind you if it is safe to do so.

❌ Never go back inside a burning building.

πŸ“ž Once you are safely outside, call Triple Zero (000) from your mobile phone or a neighbour’s phone.

Don’t wait until there’s a fire to work out how you’ll escape. Make your plan today. πŸš’

πŸ’› Today is R U OK? Day β€” but it’s a question worth asking every day.

As we prepare for the fire season ahead, part of that preparation is looking out for each other β€” and ourselves.

Our fire plans and property preparation matter, but so do the people around us.

Sometimes care is found in the simplest moments β€” a cuppa with a friend, a chat over the fence or at the bus stop, a phone call to someone you haven’t heard from for a while, or simply taking the time to notice when someone might not quite be themselves.

It’s those everyday connections that help make our community stronger β€” through fire season and all year round. πŸ’›

πŸš’πŸš¨ CAN WE GET TO YOU IN AN EMERGENCY? πŸš’πŸš¨

When every second counts, making sure our trucks have clear access to your property and nearby water sources is essential, so we can help you as quickly as possible.

πŸš’ A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR NEIGHBORING BRIGADES πŸš’

You may have seen a huge plume of black smoke across the horizon earlier today.
A fire quickly escalated after an ember had blown from a small fire (that was initially under control) into nearby material.

This time, it was old tyres and other materials that caught alight, creating a much larger fire than initially expected.

A huge thank you to the crews from Mia Mia Fire Brigade - CFA, Sutton Grange & Myrtle Creek CFA and Mosquito Creek Rural Fire Brigade, and of course our own Redesdale CFA team, for responding quickly and working together to get the fire under control. πŸ‘

πŸ”₯ It’s another reminder that fires can change very quickly. If you are lighting a fire, make sure you have a reliable water source close by and are prepared to act if things don’t go to plan.

Thanks to everyone who helped keep this one under control. πŸš’

πŸ”₯ REGISTERED YOUR BURN OFF - THE RISK DOESN'T STOP THERE πŸ”₯

Recently, our brigade attended a registered burn-off where the residents had done the right thing - the burn was registered, conditions were suitable and winds were very low.

But an ember managed to escape, catching a nearby tree and turning it into a chimney for the fire. 🌳πŸ”₯

When we attended the following day, the tree was still fully alight.

Three days later, we returned. The branches had burnt and fallen, and the fire looked well and truly out. But our thermal imaging camera told a different story - the ground was still registering temperatures of more than 500°C. 😳

With minimal risk to surroundings, the burn was supervised and maintained as a multi day registered burn.

A great reminder that embers and residual heat can remain a serious fire risk long after the flames have gone.

If you're conducting a burn-off, register it, check conditions, supervise it and keep checking long after you think it's out.
