James Street Community Garden Organic, sustainable, community garden which welcomes new members and visitors. jsrcommunitygarden@gm Membership fees are $20 each year.

James Street Reserve Community Garden is in Redfern, Sydney, on the corner of James Street and Young Lane. Our members are young and old, students and workers, locals and those who have travelled from farther afield. They all have a love for digging in the earth, watching seedlings grow, the organic ethos, the magic of composting, sharing gardening knowledge and pulling together to maintain this wonderful green community space. How it works: Members are assigned to one of the garden’s six communal beds and, with the bed’s other members, decide what to plant. Working bees are held on the first Saturday of every month from 9am. In between bees, members can come and go as they like to tend their beds and are encouraged to help with watering and compost duties for the whole garden. Members often get together informally on Sunday afternoons to garden, especially in the warmer months. Committee meetings are held every month and we also hold a Christmas party in December.
