๐Ÿ”ฅ BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD โ€“ FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED

October marks the official start of the Bush Fire Danger Period across most of NSW, including all six Local Government Areas within the Western Sydney District:

๐Ÿ“ Blacktown
๐Ÿ“ Camden
๐Ÿ“ Campbelltown
๐Ÿ“ Fairfield
๐Ÿ“ Liverpool
๐Ÿ“ Penrith

If youโ€™re planning to conduct a burn, itโ€™s important to know the rules before you light up.

๐Ÿ”ฅ During the Bush Fire Danger Period, a Fire Permit is required before lighting a fire in the open.

๐Ÿก All six Local Government Areas within the Western Sydney District also require approval or permission from the relevant Council for open burning.

๐Ÿ“ข In addition to obtaining the necessary approvals and Fire Permit, residents and landholders must notify their neighbours and the relevant fire authority at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

Fire Permits and notification requirements help ensure fire is used safely and reduce the risk to you, your property and the wider community.

Before conducting any burn, make sure you understand the requirements that apply to your property and have all necessary approvals in place.

๐Ÿ”ฅ HAZARD REDUCTION โ€“ WEDDERBURN ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Today we have a large number of NSW RFS firefighters in Wedderburn, just south of Campbelltown, preparing to undertake an important hazard reduction burn.

Crews have completed their operational briefing and are now moving into position to commence this long-awaited burn between Katanna and Minerva Roads.

With favourable conditions, this burn will help reduce fuel loads and the potential impact of future bush fires on the surrounding community.

๐Ÿš’ What to expect

Smoke and ash may be visible across the surrounding area, and access to tracks and trails near the burn will be restricted while operations are underway.

Residents close to the burn are encouraged to:

๐ŸชŸ Keep doors and windows closed
๐Ÿช‘ Keep outdoor furniture under cover
๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
๐Ÿงบ Remove washing from clotheslines
๐Ÿถ Ensure pets have a protected area
๐Ÿš˜ Slow down if driving through smoke, keep windows up and headlights on
๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Keep away from the burn area and follow directions from firefighters
๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activity if affected by smoke and follow your health management plan.

Crews will remain in the area following the burn to ensure it is made safe.
