A wonderful and surprising day today for our volunteers in the garden!!!! While taking a well earned break from our hard but enjoyable work, we were blessed with a visit by the wonderful Pat Barrett and her daughter. Who is Pat you may ask? She is the amazing person who is behind Annsleigh Gardens. Pat, alongside with her husband Lou, were the original creators of the gardens, turning it from an empty sheep paddock into a place of beauty, winning the Better Homes and Gardens award for the second best garden in Australia. Such an achievement, and such an honour to have met you today Pat!!!!
Our vision is to return the gardens to their former beauty - not an easy job, but one which our faithful volunteers all have in common. For anyone who would like to join us in the fun, we meet every Wednesday at 10am (weather permitting).

They CAME. They SAW. And they LIKED! After a pretty average start to the day with a heavy downpour of rain and cloudy skies forecast for the rest of the day, the sun came out, the bus arrived and the beautiful people from the Ulverstone Garden Club did their thing! Such a lovely group too! It took a little effort from the driver, but after a while he managed to do a 20-point turn in the car park and they were all on their way again!
What many don’t realise is that a lot of hours were put in leading up to this point and it simply would not have happened without the faithfulness and hard work of our volunteers and the hours they put in! A thousand ‘thank you’s’ - as you know, there was a lot of work to do!
With this big event now over, it’s time to shift our focus to perhaps the most important task - saving our precious seeds! With the wet season (almost) over, and show day now upon us, we’ll be busy planting out the vegetables……… :0)
Oh…. and if anyone would like to join us in our fun, our volunteers meet every Wednesday at 10am (except when the weather is looking rainy/ windy)! We’d love for you to join in the fun!

A big day on Tuesday getting ready for our very first bus load of gardeners soon to arrive! The experienced team from Arborimage spent a busy day removing dead branches from the rare Peppermint Gum and cutting back the trees along the driveway ready for a big 50 seater bus to enter. The results were fantastic!
Also, a huge shout out to Steve who helped to get the pump up and running again for the waterwheel at Judy’s Cottage and also did a fantastic job of cutting back the trees on the ‘island’. Looking so much better now and the fish seem to be loving all the activity too!
We also had heaps of fun donning the waders and scooping out years of built up debris from the Japanese Garden - still a work in progress but things are starting to look good…….! Can’t wait for you to join us for a visit!
Open every Sunday 9am until 2pm.

VOLUNTEERS Wanted!
We're planning on re-opening Annsleigh Gardens to the public again from the 1st October this year. What many people don't realize is that we are only a one person business with our main focus being to save our precious seed. With little time left to maintain and beautify the gardens we're calling for volunteers!
We're looking for interested gardeners and handymen who would like to join us one day per week tidying, weeding, pruning, clipping, digging and mulching - either in the heritage vegetable seed saving garden or the remainder of Annsleigh Gardens.
You are welcome to come in and join in the fun every Tuesday from 9am onwards (starting with our first meeting Tuesday 22nd September) or alternatively you can drop in anytime if you are happy to work on your own.
Please message below or direct message if you're interested?

Spring is definitely in the air - along with the large number of jonquils in full flower, we saw our first golden wattle in flower a few weeks back so that confirms it! One of our favourite times of the year - a time with so much promise of good things ahead - planting, harvest, warmth and sunny days!

This month we've been busy pruning the hydrangeas, camellia, rhododendrons, salvia and a large number of trees which are looking slightly unkempt. Up until recently we haven't been able to get into the vegetable patch due to minor flooding - seems like we've put the vegetables in the lower part of our gardens which tends to hold the moisture. Although great for the summer season, not so great during our wet winters. :0l

One thing about gardening in Tasmania is that we can get some ferocious winds during the winter months. Only a few weeks back we lost one of our main silver birch trees - this was the main tree which was right next to the entrance to the seed bank. It's left us with an empty looking space which we're still yet to fill. Just trying to come up with some ideas to redesign the area..........

We've also made the most of our cooler winter months working on our website. A couple of things have been added including our 'Organic Fertilizers' range including dry and liquid amendments and foliar spray. Did you know that all of the products in our fertilizer and pest control pages are organic - no chemicals here! We believe that the non-chemical option is definitely the way to go and often achieves either the same or better results! :0)

We hope you enjoy the photos!

Happy gardening!

WE WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL SUNDAY 19th JULY.
As most locals will know, we have had quite a lot of rain the past few weeks which has totally saturated the soil. This combined with the really strong winds yesterday meant that the main tree outside the front of the conservatory has come down - such a shame as it was truly beautiful!
While this creates an opportunity to create something new and exciting, it does mean that we’ve got a big job ahead of us while we remove it (at the moment it is completely blocking the driveway and car park and entrance to the conservatory).
