🚒 MAJOR FIRE – LOFTUS STREET, RIVERSTONE 🚒

Today, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone were called to a fire at a commercial premises on Loftus Street, Riverstone.

As the first arriving fire truck, Riverstone Firefighters located smoke issuing from the building and were advised that a bin was alight inside a mechanical workshop.

Firefighters made entry with hoselines to attack the fire. During the initial firefighting operations, several small explosions occurred, causing the fire to rapidly escalate and forcing firefighters to withdraw from the building.

Due to the rapid fire growth, the incident was upgraded to a 3rd Alarm, resulting in numerous Fire & Rescue NSW appliances, including specialist aerial ladder appliances, being called from across Western Sydney to assist.

Riverstone Police Area Command attended to assist with extensive road closures and, due to the potential for further explosions, a 500-metre exclusion zone was established around the incident.

NSW Ambulance paramedics also attended to assess and treat a number of occupants suffering from smoke inhalation.

With numerous neighbouring buildings under threat, firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to surrounding properties.

After several hours of intense firefighting operations, the fire was brought under control. A small number of firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the night to monitor the building and deal with any flare-ups.

👏 A huge effort by firefighters from across Western Sydney, working together to protect surrounding properties and the Riverstone community.

We would also like to thank NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and all supporting emergency services for their assistance throughout the incident.

🙏 Finally, thank you to the Riverstone community for your patience and cooperation with the road closures and exclusion zone while emergency crews worked to bring the situation under control.

Please continue to avoid the area and follow the directions of emergency services while crews remain on scene.

🚒 Stay safe, Riverstone.

🚨 IT’S A BIRD… IT’S A PLANE… NO… IT’S A FIREMAN! 🦸‍♂️🔥

Today, Riverstone Firefighters were called to reports of smoke in the vicinity of Garfield Road West.

After a little investigation 🔎👀, we tracked down the source, a large mulch fire in Marsden Park.

Due to the sheer size of the fire, numerous appliances from the NSW Rural Fire Service attended to assist. Once on scene, we worked alongside our friends at Marsden Park Rural Fire Brigade, who took over the incident and continued the hard work to fully extinguish the fire. 🚒💦

🔥 NOW IT’S YOUR TURN! 🔥

We often get asked about the cause of fires, “So, what started it?” 🤔

Well… you asked, and we listened!

Looking at the photo, what do YOU think caused this fire? 👀

Was it an accident? Something left smouldering? A hot piece of machinery? Or perhaps something completely unexpected? 😂

👇 Have a shot and tell us what you think in the comments!

We’ll see how good our Facebook fire investigators are! 🕵️‍♂️🔥

And no, “Superman’s heat vision” probably isn’t the official answer… 🦸‍♂️😂

🚒 A little preparation can make a BIG difference 🚒

Last night, firefighters from Riverstone and Schofields Fire & Rescue NSW were called to a residential fire in Schofields.

On arrival, firefighters found smoke issuing from the second level of a two-storey home, with working smoke alarms sounding.

Firefighters quickly located a small fire in a bedroom and extinguished it.

Fortunately, the residents were well prepared and acted quickly when they became aware of the fire. They were able to knock down the fire using a fire extinguisher and close the bedroom door, helping to limit the oxygen available to the fire and prevent it from spreading.

This made a significant difference and allowed firefighters to fully extinguish the fire quickly, potentially preventing what could have become a devastating house fire.

🔥 This incident is a great reminder:
✅ Make sure you have working smoke alarms throughout your home.
✅ Know where your fire extinguisher is and how to use it.
✅ If it is safe to do so, close doors behind you when leaving a room affected by fire.
✅ Have a home fire escape plan and make sure everyone in your household knows it.

Seconds matter in a fire. Being prepared and knowing what to do can save lives and protect your home.

Stay safe! ❤️‍🔥
