✨ VicSES Life Membership: Chris Doig ✨

Commencing in 1980, Chris has provided unwavering active service in two VicSES units and remains an operational member to this day.

For more than four decades, Chris has responded to major flood events, road crash rescues and complex incidents whilst maintaining extensive operational expertise across multiple disciplines. He has served with distinction in leadership roles, including unit controller and deputy controller where he has guided the Rushworth unit through significant operational challenges and strengthened our capability.

Chris has contributed significantly to training across Victoria, mentoring and developing hundreds of volunteers and played a key role in the planning and development of our current unit building.

He is widely respected by his peers, partner agencies and is known as a calm, dependable leader who consistently puts service before recognition. His contributions represent a lifetime of commitment to VicSES and the community he has served.

Congratulations Chris! 🧡

It's been a busy few months for our members, and while we may have been a little quiet on social media, we've certainly been keeping active behind the scenes!

We recently celebrated some incredible milestones within our unit, with Ray Barber receiving recognition for 15 years of dedicated service alongside Chris Doig being honoured for an outstanding 45 years of service. Their commitment to serving our community is truly appreciated and inspires us all.

We celebrated a major milestone for the Rushworth Unit, marking 50 years of service to the community with our past and present members. It's a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication of generations of volunteers.

The Easter weekend saw us cooking up a storm and joining the Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival parade. We also payed our respects at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service.

Our members have continued to develop their skills, with the members attending the 2026 Women in Rescue event, connecting with fellow volunteers and learning from experienced rescue personnel from across the state.

We also recently accepted an invitation to an Emergency Services recognition evening in Rochester, an event held by the Campaspe Shire to acknowledge the efforts of the local emergency services.

Of course, our regular weekly training nights have continued as well as some weekends away, ensuring our members remain ready to respond whenever and wherever the community needs us.

Thank you to our community for your continued support. We look forward to sharing more of what we've been up to in the coming months!

Victoria has heated up with Extreme and Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings in place for today and tomorrow in our area.

A few things to keep in mind:

🏠 Stay Indoors as much as possible and turn on cooling devices

💧Keep hydrated with water and electrolytes

🪟 Keep windows and curtains shut to keep the home cool

🐈 Ensure pets have access to fresh drinking water, in shaded areas if possible

🚗 Never leave pets or children in vehicles, including ute trays. Temperatures inside vehicles can become fatally hot within just minutes.

👵🏼 Check in on loved ones, neighbours and vulnerable community members

🔥 Know your Fire Escape Plan and tell someone what your intentions are. Leave early, do not wait until it is too late to leave.

🧳 Have a Home Emergency Kit packed and ready to go. Be sure to include water, chargers, medication, pet and baby supplies, important documents, batteries, torch etc

🚨 Stay informed though local radio, news updates, VicEmergency website and downloadable app, Bureau of Meteorology, CFA (Country Fire Authority), and Victoria State Emergency Service pages.

🎄🚗 A Holiday Reminder 🚗🎆

As we head into the Christmas and New Year period, please take a little extra care on the roads. There will be more traffic, longer journeys, and plenty of distractions, so please slow down, stay alert, and be patient with one another.

If you’re driving, buckle up, put the phone away, never drive tired or impaired, and give yourself plenty of time to get where you’re going. Arriving a few minutes late is always better than not arriving at all.

Let’s do our part to make sure everyone gets home safely to their loved ones this holiday season. 🏡
