We have been humbled over recent weeks with many gestures of support from our community during this horrific fire season.
We are grateful for your support and for the appreciation that so many people are wanting to express.
With so much generosity being extended towards us recently, we have had to turn down many offers of gifts and donations as we are
not permitted to accept gifts and donations and we only ask for your understanding.
Nor can we recommend charities or individuals to direct your generosity towards.
Please consider sharing your generosity and your sense of community by supporting persons who have lost homes and loved ones. The devastation they are experiencing far exceeds what we can hope to offer them as a fire service.
Hug your kids.
Phone a loved one.
Spend time with everyone you care about.
We look forward to seeing you out on the road and serving you in the same manner as we have done for many years and will continue to do after this fire season is behind us.

Sometimes you might see Pump 42 at the petrol station and you might be thinking "I wonder why the firies are at the petrol station? Maybe there has been a fire."
While that may be true once in a while its probably more likely that we are just filling up.
We keep our fuel tank 3/4 full as a mimimum in case we are responded to a major incident that requires protracted pumping operations.
Pumping in a relay at a big job is no time to run out of fuel.
This means that we fill up nearly every day.
See you at the bowser.

We may say that we do "more than fires" but lately its been fires-a-go-go for Ryde Fire Station.
It's a timely reminder to keep looking while cooking.

Fires isn't all we do at Ryde Fire Station.
We also respond to automatic fire alarms which sort out the skilled friefighters from the pretenders.
Reading the fire indicator panel, managing the Emergency Warning system, interpreting maps of detector zones, sprinkler pump rooms and stop valves as well as orienteering through a maze of unfamiliar plant rooms; It all has to come togther under pressure.
Ryde fire station - more than fire.

Pump 42 keeping neighbourhoods safe at this wires down in a residential street that would soon be used by young children and families, not realising that an invisible killer was waiting for them!
Firefighters courageously stretched out barrier tape to alert innocent civilians of the danger and to highlight what areas were still safe.
They then settled in for a vigilant wait while the energy company turned the power off to commence repairs.
Yes. Even firefighters need heroes.
All in a days work for Ryde Fire Station.

Every dream of becoming a firefighter begins with a dreamer.
Its how we all got started.

Motor vehicle accidents are a large part of what we do.
Pumper 42 responded to a dispute over 'who's parking spot is this anyway'?
No-one was hurt and there may be some good lessons to be learned on how to reduce parking congestion.

Its not all floods and fires either...
Here is pumper 42 in position at a FireEd. That's when we visit schools, preschools and childcare centres to teach the kids about smoke alarms and what firefighters do.
And don't the kids just love it?
So much so, why not see for yourself on Open Day on 18 May.
Bring the kids and post your visit to our page.

Its more than fires for Ryde Fire Station. Flood mitigation work during recent storms when city streets became rivers.
