*** HELPING HANDS RUNNING FESTIVAL ***

The Helping Hands Running Festival commenced on the 23rd of October at 6:00am and will go until the 24th 6:00pm October, 2026 at Lake Guthridge.

The Helping Hands Festival is to help raise funds for the Free 3D Hands which is an Australian charity committed to being a global leader in the design and innovation of high-quality, low-cost assistive technology—freely available to anyone in the world who needs it.

Over 200 runners have participated in the run this year. There was also a kids run with many fast junior members of our community enjoying the 1km course around the Lake.

Wellington Highway Patrol and the Wellington Proactive Unit joined in for a short run around the lake with the participants.

Thank you to all of our wonderful Community who came down to support such a worthy project for children in the Wellington Shire and around the world.

Thinking about buying an electric fat bike?

Fat bikes are easy to spot thanks to their extra-wide tyres, but don't assume every electric fat bike is a legal e-bike.

Some models are capable of speeds and power levels that place them in the motorcycle category.

If that's the case, riders need:

✅ Registration
✅ A motorcycle licence or learner permit
✅ To be 18+

Check the rules before you buy: https://transport.vic.gov.au/road-and-active-transport/active-transport/bicycles/electric-bikes

*** CRIME PREVENTION TIPS WHEN NOT HOME ***

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Principles are being used across Gippsland to increase the safety in our Region.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design known as CPTED is defined as the proper design and effective use of the built environment that can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime and an improvement in the quality of life. The aim of the CPTED principles is to minimise an area becoming a soft target for criminal activity.

As we are not far out of the busy Christmas period, many families will be heading off on holidays. The following crime prevention tips are based on the CPTED principles – being natural surveillance, clear access control , territorial reinforcement and maintenance.

A home that looks unattended is generally an easier target for an offender. To help keep your property and home safe during this period, ensure that all of your doors and windows are securely locked, this includes sheds and garages. Secure your valuables and jewellery in a safe location.

Cancel any regular deliveries to the house . Ask a neighbour to put your bins out and bring them back in. Keep your shrubs and trees trimmed so your house is visible from the street and there is a clear line of sight so there are no hiding spots for offenders. Notify your closest neighbours and leave a contact phone number whilst you are gone. Do not leave a spare key out.

Do not post information on Facebook and other social media that your house will be vacant and you are not home. Keep your sensor lights switched on to activate when motion is detected at night as a deterrent. If you have wireless cameras – ensure they have enough charge to keep working whilst you are not home.

You can list your house as empty with the Absence From Residence form.

To download an Absence From Residence Form, go to Victoria Police Website – https://www.police.vic.gov.au/absence-residence

If you would like further information in regards to CPTED audits, please contact Leading Senior Constable Kim Kell at the Sale Police on 51 42 2200.
