We are just one week away from the Scarborough Rotary, Western Australia LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health!

Next Sunday (May 3rd), we are gathering for a family-friendly walk to start important conversations, show support for those facing mental health challenges, and raise essential funds for Australian Rotary Health.

We simply could not run these impactful community events without incredible local leaders backing the cause. That is why we want to send a massive thank you to our Gold Sponsor, Reliant Care.

Established by nurses, Reliant Care provides reliable staffing solutions to healthcare agencies. They were built on a mission to guarantee the highest calibre of care for patients, meaning they understand firsthand the critical importance of health, wellbeing, and excellence in service delivery.

Because of major supporters like Reliant Care stepping up, we are able to ensure 100% of the funds raised on the day go straight into mental health research.

Whether you are walking to support a loved one, to raise awareness, or to enjoy a morning out, we would love to see you there.

People often ask us how a local Rotary Club manages to fund and support so many fantastic community projects.

The truth is, it takes more than just volunteering our time on the ground. It takes grass-roots community backing. One of the biggest ways we raise the funds needed to support our charity partners is Karrinyup SwapMart.

Every Sunday morning, our members roll up their sleeves to run this fantastic second-hand market. It’s a brilliant community event where preloved goods find new homes, and the money raised goes straight back into making a difference locally.

Whether you are hunting for unique gifts, thrifting for stylish clothes, or looking to green up your space with some new garden or indoor plants, there is a treasure waiting for everyone.

For the early birds, sellers can enter from 5:45am, and we welcome buyers to come and explore from 6:30am right through to 10:00am.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Come down, enjoy the community vibe, grab a bargain, and know that your Sunday morning thrift is directly funding our next community project.

When we face mental health challenges, the hardest part is often feeling like we are walking alone. That’s why we’re inviting you to walk with us.

After an incredible turnout last year, with over 120 of you braving some pretty ordinary weather, we are so proud to announce the return of our LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health.

On Sunday, May 3rd 2026, Scarborough Rotary, Rotary Club of Karrinyup, and Rotary Club of Osborne Park are coming together for a morning of connection. We are walking to raise awareness, to show those struggling that they have a whole community standing behind them, and to raise vital research funds for the mental health and wellbeing of our vulnerable 0-12-year-olds through Australian Rotary Health.

This is a safe, accessible 4.2km stroll from the Scarborough Clocktower to Trigg Surf Club and back. There are no roads to cross, it’s open to all abilities, and it’s completely pet-friendly.

A massive thank you to our hard-working organising team for putting this together. Let’s lift the lid on mental health, together.

This week's guest speaker is Lois Moir, Retired Senior Occupational Therapist with Wheelchairs for Kids Australia.

Lois travels around the world fitting wheelchairs for children and training locals in developing countries. She has made trips to countries including the Philippines, Mongolia, Kenya, East Timor and Vanuatu.

Before she retired, Lois was an occupational therapist and worked for many years with children and people with disabilities. Along with several of her colleagues Lois was involved with setting up a charity to deliver therapy in Vanuatu, and through that charity she became involved with Wheelchairs For Kids. Lois has now spent over ten years with Wheelchairs For Kids, travelling overseas and sharing her expertise with the locals so they can confidently fit and maintain the wheelchairs sent to them.

This week's meeting will be held
Time: 6.45 am for a 7.15 am start

What does six decades of dedication to your community look like? For Fred Marsh, it looks like a lifetime of empowering local youth and leading by example.

Last week, we are incredibly proud to celebrate a massive milestone: Fred’s 60th anniversary as a member of Rotary. Over the last 60 years, Fred hasn't just participated; he has been a true cornerstone of our club and the wider community.

While his leadership journey has seen him serve as both Past District Governor and Past President of Scarborough Rotary, Western Australia, his most enduring legacy might be his passion for education. Fred was the driving force behind the 4-way test public speaking competition - a brilliant initiative that gives local school students a platform to build their confidence, develop critical thinking, and find their voice.

The most inspiring part? Sixty years in, Fred hasn't slowed down. He is still out there today, actively organising the competition and working closely with our local schools to support the next generation.

If you ever want to know what the Rotary ethos of "Service above Self" truly means, you just have to look at Fred Marsh. Thank you, Fred, for 60 years of unwavering commitment to making our world a better place.
