🚨 BIG UPGRADE ALERT 🚨
Scoresby CFA is proud to announce that our Hose Layer has officially been upgraded… and now tows a full truck trailer loaded with 100mm hose! 🚒🥳
That’s right - we’ve now got MORE THAN DOUBLE the hose laying capacity 💪🔥
When it comes to getting water where it needs to go… we’re not messing around anymore 💧😎

Scoresby Hoselayer has been requested at 5 events so far in 2026, including two significant structure fires in the last 10 days.
Last Tuesday 27 January, Scoresby Hose Layer was responded to a hay shed fire in Nyora, 30 kilometres south east of Koo Wee Rup.
Two separate lines of 100mm hose totalled around 1km laid from separate dams, creating a steady water supply at the fire.
The crew also established three ground monitors, on the northern and eastern faces of the fire. Importantly, this meant crews on handlines didn’t need to be working right up against the structure.
That hose was committed at the job for 4 days before our crew collected the lay on Saturday, needing to hand-retrieve many lengths which were in areas not easily accessible by truck.
Yesterday, Wednesday 4 February we were requested at a nursery fire in Kilsyth South. The crew laid 360m of hose from a hydrant to The Basin pumper.
The lay was retrieved at 7pm by three crew, while many other Scoresby members responded to a bushfire next to Eastlink.

Scoresby Hoselayer was the recent feature of an exercise with Olinda Rural Fire Brigade, Sassafras-Ferny Creek Fire Brigade CFA and Kalorama Fire Brigade
Last weekend, we put the theory into practice with a 3 stage scenario. Crews saw first hand the differences in water dynamics when running 9 lengths of 64mm directly from the base pump, compared to when tankers were placed every three lengths and finally when the Scoresby Hose Layer deployed its 100mm hose from the base pump to the attack pump achieving approx. 2000L/min - almost doubling the volume whilst freeing up two tankers that were previously in the relay. A special thanks to Event Central for allowing us to use their grounds for this training exercise.

🔥🚒 This afternoon, Scoresby Hose Layer has been dispatched to an industrial rubbish fire in Diamond Creek. 420m of 100mm hose has been laid from the water source to the fire trucks attacking the heart of the fire.
Whilst en route, we worked with the local crews on scene to test multiple hydrants before we got there so we knew what best to hook into. We ended up connecting two separate mains to maximise flow for the firefighting operation with 125,000 litres pumped in the first two hours after the lay was set up.

🚨 SHED FIRE - CORA LYNN 🚨
Scoresby Hose Layer is currently on scene at a shed fire in Cora Lynn.
2.2km of hose was laid and 1800 litres of water per minute being supplied to put on the fire per minute mean many of the local crews could head back to their station to protect their communities rather than driving water between Yallock outfill drain and the fire.

How was your morning commute today? This is the commute to work we were asked to take this morning, 320km to Dumosa.
The Hose Layer and crews are back in station already after the plan to attack the fire changed, but it demonstrates how far and wide we can travel to assist the communities across Victoria.

🚨 FACTORY FIRE - KILSYTH 🚨
At 3:39 this morning Scoresby was responded to support Montrose Fire Brigade to a factory fire on Canterbury road Kilsyth. Over 400m of 100mm hose was laid to supply 2 ladder platform appliances who were delivering a combined 7000 litres per minute of water onto the fire.

🧯🔥🚒FACTORY FIRE - BAYSWATER🚒🔥🧯
This morning at 05:38 Scoresby Hose Layer was responded to Support Fire Rescue Victoria and CFA (Country Fire Authority) crews at a factory in Bayswater.
Scoresby Hose Layer laid 240m of 100mm hose between The Basin Fire Brigade (CFA) Pumper and Bayswater Fire Brigade-CFA Pumper. By the time the fire was extinguished, Bayswater Pumper had pumped over 350,000l of water as part of the firefighting efforts.

Cruising about town retrieving hose. Why would you roll it up by hand when you can make the equipment do the hard work.

SCORESBY HOSE LAYER DEMONSTRATION - PATTERSON RIVER FIRE BRIGADE - 09/07/2024
"Have hose, will travel". On Monday we took the Hose Layer to Paterson River fire station to share our specialised knowledge on hose laying and water hydraulics with our fellow firefighters from the Patterson River Fire Brigade, Carrum Downs Fire Brigade and Skye Fire Brigade (CFA).
Scenarios of where the Hose Layer could help our colleagues work smarter not harder with our assistance at fires were discussed and will form the basis of another upcoming practical training session.
