Tonight we had done a final training session for our GFF recruits for Shelford this year.

Both Jason & Thomas had run through a selection of drills and scenarios in preparation for their up-coming Assessments, upon finishing these assessments, we will be happy to welcome 2 new qualified firefighters to our growing brigade.

Although we are emerging into the 2026-2027 fire season, you are still able to register your interest in becoming a volunteer firefighter and joining the Shelford brigade, we are a welcoming group and are happy to take anyone onboard, no matter your skills or experience.

Many local and neighboring bridges had a busy night last night and into the early hours of this morning.

A call to support Meredith Fire Brigade at a structure fire came though at around 11:45pm.

Upon arrival crews were faced with a fully involved shed, containing egg cartons. The main focus for initial brigades was to halt the spread of fire, with support brigades keeping up the supply of water.

The rehab unit was also in attendance supporting and supplying firefighters and other personnel with hot beverages.

Was a great effort by all involved.

Not the sort of post we wish to write up, but one we need to share.

This morning (10/09/2026) at around 08:30am, one of our members observed a white subaru outback attempt a ram raid at our station. Luckily one of our members driving past had spooked the occupant/s of the vehicle and they had fled the scene, last seen heading towards teesdale.

We are more than disgusted that someone has done this to our brand new shed (not even had it for 6 months), we are %100 volunteer operated, and having to dedicate more time of our lives for insurance claims and damage reports is a hassle we do not need.

If anyone had seen something, or perhaps caught anything on a dashcam or property camera, please submit the information to victoria police.

It was a perfect morning today for the Sunday morning run.

Every Sunday our members commit some time to the brigade by keeping the shed tidy, as well as testing our radios and gear, we also take Shelford Tanker for a local run to make sure everything is in working order.
If you see us out and about, give us a wave 😃.

This week our members had revised their map skills and local knowledge, we spent the session navigation the town and using our map books.
A pretty fun session, but we used skills that are important to remember.

Last week our brigade got together for our June training night.

The topic for the night was radios, but radios are more than just knowing which button to press.

We had discussions on proper radio etiquette, and what sort of information we should be transmitting over our radios, and what sort of information we dont need to worry about.

We finished the night up with our members running through pretend radio procedures using real radios and channels.

We have recently attained some new chairs for our brigade, and we are no longer in need of our old ones.

Pick-up only, they are at the Shelford Fire Station, just by the fence of the side of the driveway.

First come first served, please remember not to block our driveway for emergency access.

Last night our members attended our third brigade training night for the year.

The topic was structure fires, which begun at the station discussing the topic, and we ended up running through a structure fire scenario within the community.

Members were able to practise setting up hose lines, as well as reaffirm their local knowledge of hydrants in the town.

Not only did the country fire authority deliver a record breaking donation to the good friday appeal, we also broke last years record for the appeal with a total of $25'268'485.
Good job to everyone who donated their time and money to this amazing cause, thank you.

What a incredible day it has been, in our 75th year supporting the Good Friday Appeal!

Our brigades collected a remarkable $2,150,000 and it wouldn't have been possible without your support!

Thank you to all the members of the community who generously donated and supported the cause through our brigades, and to our wonderful members who took part in this year's fundraising efforts both before and during the appeal. We are so proud to be a part of such a worthwhile cause each and every year.
