CHANGING PLACES FACILITY TO COMPLETE ROSE POINT PARK AS ALL-ABILITIES DESTINATION 🌹👚

A Changing Places facility will be delivered for Singleton’s Rose Point Park thanks to funding from the Australian Government, completing the space as an all-abilities destination with accessible play equipment, sensory area and amenities.

Changing Places facilities in NSW are specialised, fully accessible adult change rooms equipped with ceiling hoists, adjustable-height change tables and extra space for carers. An accessible central toilet, grab rails, washbasin, and privacy screen are also included.

The facility is being funded through the Commonwealth Accessible Australia Initiative.

Member for Hunter Dan Repacholi MP said he was proud to see Singleton Council and the Australian Government working together to deliver a Changing Places facility at Rose Point Park.

“This project will make a real difference for people with disability, their families and carers, ensuring everyone can enjoy our fantastic local parks and community spaces,” he said.

“It’s another step towards a more inclusive community, where everyone is welcome and supported.”

Sue Moore Singleton Mayor said the facility would be a fantastic addition to Rose Point Park, which already has an enviable regional reputation for accessibility.

“We take a great deal of pride in providing inclusive community spaces and Rose Point Park is certainly the jewel in the crown when it comes to creating places where people of all abilities can connect, play and belong,” she said.

“The addition of the Changing Places facility will make it a truly all-ages destination, allowing everyone to enjoy this beautiful space knowing that their needs are considered and provided for.

“Changing Places facilities like this require specialist design and equipment which can often put them beyond the budgets of regional councils like ours, so we’re grateful to the Australian Government for their support to partner with us to deliver this important project.”

While the design for the facility was completed in-house, Singleton Council engaged an accredited access consultant to formally approve the design prior to construction, who will also authorise and approve the building following completion.

Use of the Changing Places facility will require a Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) for entry, which may be applied for via Singleton Council or the Master Locksmiths Association with eligibility as a person/s with a disability.

Cr Moore said the park would remain open while construction was underway, with completion expected by mid 2027.

“People coming to the park will notice temporary fencing in place while works are underway, but we will be making every effort to minimise disruptions to allow people to continue to enjoy this space and particularly the playground in the meantime,” Cr Moore said.

“Once complete, Rose Point Park will be added to the National Public Toilet Map so that even more people can enjoy this wonderful outdoor space along with everything else our local government area has to offer to people of all abilities.”

🚫 Glass and bulk waste don't mix!

Did you know that glass items like mirrors, windows, glass table tops and sliding doors can't be placed out for kerbside bulk waste collection?

Here's why glass is a no-go:

⚠️ Shatter risk: Large glass items can easily break when moved, stacked or collected.
🧤 Worker safety: Our collection crews handle many items by hand, and broken glass can cause serious injuries.
🐾 Community safety: Shattered glass left on footpaths or roads can be dangerous for pedestrians, pets and passing vehicles.
♻️ Recycling challenges: Not all glass is created equal! Windows, mirrors and other specialty glass can't be recycled in the same way as everyday glass bottles and jars.

The bottom line? Keep glass out of your bulk waste pile. It's a small action that makes a big difference in keeping Singleton safe.

👉 Before placing items on the kerb, check what's accepted in your bulk waste collection on Council's website: www.singleton.nsw.gov.au/waste

SINGLETON MAYOR SUE MOORE RECOGNISED WITH MINISTER-SELECTED AWARD

Sue Moore Singleton Mayor has received one of the highest honours in local government after taking out the prestigious Minister-selected Lilliane Brady OAM Award at the NSW Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government today.

Singleton Council was also recognised for supporting women’s participation, progression and leadership by receiving the Excellence in Gender Equity Award for initiatives including the Sharon Hutch Memorial Scholarship which provides a $3000 scholarship to a female employee for professional development opportunities, and the Reproductive Health Procedure providing inclusive leave entitlements and workplace adjustments to support a wide range of needs for women and men.

Co-hosted by Minister for Local Government, the Hon Ron Hoenig MP and the Minister for Women, the Hon Jodie Harrison MP and announced at NSW Parliament House, the Ministers’ Awards for Women in Local Government celebrate the women leading, innovating, and making a lasting difference in councils and communities across NSW.

Cr Moore said it was an incredible moment to receive the Lilliane Brady OAM Award as Singleton navigated a significant state of transition.

The Award honours the legacy of the late Councillor Lilliane Brady OAM, the State’s longest-serving female mayor and a strong advocate for women in local government and is selected by the Minister for Local Government.

First elected to Council in 1999, Cr Moore became Singleton’s first female mayor as elected by her peers, and the first female mayor by popular vote. She has served three consecutive terms as mayor since 2016.

“It’s an enormous privilege to represent the people of Singleton. But it’s one that I don’t take for granted, because not so long ago, opportunities like this were simply not available to many women,” she said.

“This award is a wonderful reminder of why I chose to serve in the first place—because of the people who make our community the special place it is.

“Whether it’s helping solve a local issue, planning for the long-term future of our community, or getting the best outcome for the Singleton Bypass by making sure our community had input into the route and getting the Deputy Premier at the time to commit to a full interchange to best access our main street and support our local businesses, I’m proud of everything we have achieved for our community.

“As Singleton continues to grow and evolve, I’m committed to protecting all that makes our community special: our strong sense of connection, our resilience and our country town spirit.”

The Excellence in Gender Equity Award is presented to a council that is creating inclusive workplaces and supporting women’s participation, progression and leadership.

Council’s Acting General Manager, Mel Curtis said it was wonderful recognition for an organisation that was committed to supporting its people to be their best through a range of initiatives and programs.

“We’re proud to have an inclusive and equitable workplace that empowers our people to succeed, supports work-life balance, and provides opportunities for professional growth and career development,” she said.

“That includes putting the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff at the forefront, and leading the way as one of the first councils to introduce a Reproductive Health Procedure.

“As our organisation is undergoing a period of renewal with the recruitment of a new general manager, this Award is a timely reinforcement that what won’t change is our commitment to our people and to helping our staff be the best that they can be.”

♻️ BULK WASTE COLLECTION 2026 | What you need to know

Singleton’s annual bulk waste collection is back from 2 November – 11 December 2026, giving eligible households the chance to dispose of unwanted bulky items from the kerbside, free of charge.

📅 Collection dates vary by suburb, so check when we’ll be in your area and make sure you know the guidelines before putting your items out 🔗 www.singleton.nsw.gov.au/bulkwaste

The service is available to households that pay for a Council waste service.

🏠 Getting ready for your collection

Place your unwanted bulky items on the kerb the week before your scheduled collection. Please don’t put items out earlier — leaving waste on the kerb outside your collection period is considered illegal dumping and penalties may apply.

Separate your waste into two piles:
👉 General waste
👉 Scrap metal + whitegoods

All loose rubbish must be placed in bags or boxes.

📏 The combined size of your piles must be no more than two cubic metres of domestic waste — equivalent to a 1.2m x 1.8m trailer loaded just under 1m high.

Before you head to the kerb, check what can and can’t be collected 👇

✅️ ACCEPTABLE ITEMS

• General household bulky waste
