We were delighted to welcome Alison Penfold MP for Lyne to our Taree Community Kitchen this week. Alison met with Volunteer Coordinator Halley and our team of volunteers to see first-hand how the Community Kitchen operates, serving up 250 meals a day to those in need.

Alison also made a visit to Coles Taree and learnt how, through the SecondBite food rescue program, surplus fresh produce and quality food items are donated and used by CatholicCare to prepare over 80,000 hot, nutritious meals each year.

Thank you to Alison for taking the time to visit and learn more about our service and helping to raise awareness of the important role that these partnerships play in supporting vulnerable members in our community.

We were proud to be part of the annual Hunter Homeless Connect Day for 2026, held in July. Our staff and volunteers provided a free BBQ for attendees and contributed to a day focused on connection and practical support for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Held at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, this year's event was the biggest yet, bringing together over 5,000 people, service providers, volunteers, businesses and community groups with a shared commitment to supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Our team spent the day cooking and serving meals, offering a warm welcome and a friendly conversation alongside the many support services available. While CatholicCare was just one of 162 service providers involved, it was wonderful to see so many organisations coming together to provide practical support, community connection and help create a positive day out for attendees.

CatholicCare was proud to be named a finalist in the Outstanding Community Organisation category at the 2026 MidCoast Business Awards, held in August.

The awards celebrate the outstanding businesses, organisations and individuals who contribute to the growth, vibrancy and success of the MidCoast region. Finalists are recognised for the positive impact they make within their communities and the vital role they play in helping the region thrive.

Our staff joined fellow finalists in celebrating local achievements at the Awards Night.

While we did not take home the award, our staff were incredibly proud to represent our organisation and have our impactful work acknowledged on a public stage.

As we mark the end of Homelessness Week we're celebrating our community. Through its community kitchens and services, CatholicCare supports thousands of people each year who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our annual Make a Difference Appeal is one of the ways the Community Kitchens are funded and it's fitting that this week, we reached our target of raising $15,000 for those in need.
Thank you to everyone who has given generously and made a difference.

Hear about the difference you are making from our volunteers on the ground in Taree.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

A big thank you to Club Forster and Club Taree for their ongoing support of CatholicCare's Community Kitchens through the ClubGRANTS program, with each club providing a generous grant this year.

Both clubs have been valued supporters of our community kitchens for many years, helping us continue to provide free hot meals to people experiencing hardship across the Mid Coast.

Collectively, these two kitchens serve over 1,000 meals every week, yet the services don’t receive government funding. Instead, we rely on the generosity of local businesses, community supporters and our incredible teams of volunteers.

The generous ClubGRANTS funding will help meet growing demand by supporting vital operational costs, volunteer management, packaging and equipment, ensuring our kitchens can continue helping those who need it most.
