NSW SES - Singleton Unit For emergency help in floods and storms, ring 132500. For life threatening emergencies call 000

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 229 units located throughout New South Wales. The units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations, the SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force , the NSW Rural Fire Service , the Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW .

It’s time to get your property ready - more unstable weather is on the way from tonight into next week! ☔️

Here’s a breakdown of what we’re expecting:

🔹 Thunderstorms are possible across the state from tonight into Saturday morning, possibly becoming severe in Northeastern NSW. Damaging winds and large hail are the main risks, with isolated heavy rainfall possible.

🔹 Saturday and Sunday afternoon, storms are expected to redevelop over Northeastern NSW.

🔹 Monday and Tuesday, widespread showers and severe thunderstorms are possible across much of NSW, including the Hunter, Central Coast, Northern Coast and adjacent slopes and ranges and Northern Inland. Damaging winds, large hail and localised heavy rainfall of 60-70mm is possible.

🔹 From Wednesday, storms are expected to head to Northern ranges and coast, including the Hunter.

Stay ahead of the storm and prepare now:

🔸 Move your vehicle under cover or away from trees and powerlines, if safe to do so.
🔸 Tie down loose items ahead of strong winds.
🔸 Keep clear of creeks and storm drains
🔸 Clear your gutters and trim back overhanging branches.

🚗 If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route.
Stay vigilant. Flash flooding is dangerous and unpredictable.

📲 Download Hazards Near Me or visit our website to stay up to date with warnings, especially as the weather moves through and may affect other locations.

☎️ If you require assistance, call us on 132 500. In life-threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000).

⚠️ NOTICE: NSW SES advises that flood mitigation measures have been implemented at Accor Stadium ahead of this afternoon and toKnight’s NRL Grand Finals 🏈

We’ve tackled the pre-deployment of sandbags to prepare for the potential flood of passionate supporters, with emotions likely to be running high following their team’s result tonight.

Our crews tested their flood response during last night’s storm and have confirmed it’s ‘better than lego’ but recommend fans stay alert for any stampedes of supporters ‘flying the coop’ should their team end up defeated.

Conditions are expected to ease by Monday, although widespread debates regarding referee decisions may extend well into next week 🤔

During the 2022 Floods on the Hunter River, NSW SES - Singleton Unit was assisted by a number of individuals or groups around the LGA, all acting as eyes, ears and points of contact in their local areas.

Two such volunteers were Ross Brewer of Lamb's Valley, and Brian Atfield of Jerry's Plains. Singleton SES Nominated both for the NSW Premier's Emergency flood citation and were very happy when these nominations were accepted.

We congratulate both men, and the others in their localities who supported them.

It’s been a busy few days for the Singleton SES Unit as we support the Australian Army Cadets during their annual field exercise at Lake St Clair.

Over the past three days, we’ve welcomed around 600 cadets through our activities, giving them the opportunity to get hands-on with SES equipment, experience our flood rescue boat and take part in practical emergency response challenges.

It’s been a fantastic few days of sharing what we do, connecting with the next generation and hopefully inspiring some future SES volunteers!

Three days down, three to go! 💪🚨

A huge shout-out to all our Singleton SES volunteers ,as well as members from Maitland and Cessnock Units, who have put in the time and effort to make this event happen.

During the 2022 floods, the village of Bulga was isolated by floodwaters on several occasions.

The Bulga Community Resilience Team—led by Kristy and Jan Hedley, and drawing on the generational waterway knowledge of Frank Turnbull—provided vital support to the NSW SES, Bulga and Milbrodale communities during response and recovery operations.

On Monday night, Kristy and Jan were presented with the Premier’s Flood Citation at the Bulga Community Hall, which served as an evacuation centre during the events. The presentation took place in front of the Hall Committee to recognise their contributions to protecting the local community.

Thank you to the Hedleys, Mr Turnbull, and all who assisted during this time.

During the 2022 floods, the NSW SES worked alongside Hunter River communities to help prepare for and respond to rising floodwaters. We could not have managed this response without the direct support of local residents, who contributed vital flood intelligence and assisted as part of Community Resilience Teams.

The Premier's Flood Citation recognises the community members and emergency personnel who helped protect their local areas during these events.

The **NSW SES Singleton Unit** recently presented the citation to **John Redgrove of Scotts Flat**.

Mr Redgrove provided important assistance during flood preparation and response operations across the Singleton LGA in both 2021 and 2022.

We thank Mr Redgrove and all local community members for their support during these flood events.
