2026 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS - HAVEN’T RECEIVED YOUR VOTING PACK?

With the 2026 Local Government Elections now underway, Circular Head Council would like to remind residents that if you haven’t received your voting pack in the mail, there is still time to have your say.

πŸ—³ Haven’t received your voting pack?
If you are enrolled to vote in the Circular Head municipality and your voting pack hasn't arrived, has been misplaced or is damaged, you can visit the Circular Head Council office. Our Electoral Officer Jodie is available to assist eligible electors and can issue a supplementary (replacement) voting pack once your enrolment details have been confirmed.

πŸ—³ Where can I return my vote?
Circular Head Council has a secure ballot box available at our Council office. You are welcome to drop your completed voting pack into the ballot box during office hours rather than returning it by post.
πŸ“33 Goldie Street, Smithton
Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm

❗️IMPORTANT - VOTING DEADLINE
Voting closes at 2pm on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. Your completed voting pack must be received by this time for your vote to be counted.

🌱 : Where does your FOGO go?

Ever wondered what happens to your food scraps and garden waste after your green bin is collected?

πŸš› Step 1: Collection
Your food scraps and garden waste are collected from your kerbside FOGO bin.

🏭 Step 2: Off to the DOT facility
The organic material travels to Dulverton Waste Management Organics Treatment (DOT) facility in Latrobe, right here in North-West Tasmania!

♻️ Step 3: A new life for organic waste
Instead of going to landfill, your FOGO is processed and transformed into valuable compost.

🌿 Step 4: Back to the soil
The finished compost can be used by local farms and nurseries to improve soil health and return valuable nutrients to the soil.
Find out where you can buy it πŸ‘‰ www.dulverton.com.au/retail

And just like that, food and garden waste becomes a useful resource again!

Every time you use your FOGO bin correctly, you help keep valuable organic materials in circulation, reduce waste sent to landfill and contribute to a more sustainable community.

πŸ’š Small actions at home can make a big difference.

This , remember food scraps aren't just waste - they're a resource!

Great to see so many farming families coming together at the Smithton Saleyards last week.

Council was pleased to support Rural Alive & Well (RAW) with a $2,584 Community Small Grant for the event.

The event was all about bringing farming families together, starting conversations about mental health and wellbeing and connecting people with support.

Got a community project of your own? Council has allocated $40,000 for community grants in the 2026–27 Council Budget, with Round Two opening early next year. Local not-for-profit groups can apply for grants of up to $3,000. Find out more on Council's Community Grants webpage.

πŸ“ Did you know our Visitor Information Centre is for locals too?

The team at Smithton Visitor Information Centre doesn't just help people visiting Circular Head. They're a great source of information for those of us who live here too!

They make it their business to know what's happening around our region – like when Black River Campground is reopening (see below)! Or road conditions, what's open, places to explore and what to do on a beautiful summer's day versus a day like yesterday when the hail came in sideways 🌧

And they're pretty good at it too! After taking home Gold at the 2025 Tasmanian Tourism Awards, they're finalists again in 2026. πŸ†

So whether you're planning a weekend adventure, looking for somewhere to take visiting friends or just want to know what's happening in our own backyard, give their page a follow.

The Black River Campground in the Peggs Beach Conservation Area will be partially open for visitors from Monday 19 October 2026 β›Ί

The back end of the campground will remain closed while works are completed on the new toilets and the old toilets are removed.

The Parks & Wildlife Service anticipate opening the entire campground at the end of October πŸƒ we will keep you updated with any further information!

πŸ“Έ PICTURED: Our Waste and Environment Officer was checking the bins at White Hills Waste Transfer Centre this week and spotted a lot of cardboard in the general waste bin… headed straight for landfill πŸ₯Ί

Hopefully this was a one-off! Either way, we all have a choice – send cardboard to landfill or give it a second life.

♻️ Did you catch our story earlier this week about what happens to cardboard collected in Circular Head? It shows where it goes and what it can become (scroll back on our feed to learn more).

Definitely worth those extra 20-ish steps to the cardboard recycling bins.

🎯 Less waste to landfill. More resources recovered. A better waste future for Circular Head.
